How to Get to Playa Alicia

Getting to Playa Alicia is a simple and rewarding adventure. This beautiful beach is strategically located in the heart of Sosúa, making it very accessible from different points in the province of Puerto Plata. If you are coming from the city of Puerto Plata, the journey by car or taxi usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. The road is generally good, offering panoramic views of the coastal landscape.

From Puerto Plata

• By private or rental car: The most direct route is to take highway 5 (Carretera Luperón) heading east. You will see signs for Sosúa. Once in Sosúa, access to Playa Alicia is well signposted, usually via the streets descending from the main avenue towards the coast.
• Public transport ('guaguas'): 'Guaguas' are shared minibuses that operate fixed routes and are an economical and authentic option. You can take a 'guagua' from the Puerto Plata terminal bound for Sosúa. Once in Sosúa, you can walk or take a 'motoconcho' (motorcycle taxi) to the beach, which is a short distance from the town center.
• Taxi: This is the most comfortable and fastest option. You can hire a taxi directly from your hotel or any point in Puerto Plata. Prices are negotiable, so it is always advisable to agree on the fare before starting the trip.

From Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP)

The airport is conveniently located between Puerto Plata and Sosúa. From there, you can take a taxi directly to Sosúa, which will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Many hotels in Sosúa also offer transfer services to and from the airport, making your arrival to Puerto Plata beach even easier.

Once in Sosúa, the beach is easily accessible on foot from most central accommodations. There is parking available near the beach, although it can fill up during high season. Our recommendation is to arrive early to secure a good spot and enjoy the morning tranquility offered by this charming Caribbean corner.

Unlike other beaches where the sand can be coarser or mixed with pebbles, here we found a uniformity that contributes to the feeling of luxury and comfort.

But if the sand is a delight, the water is a true marvel. The waters of Playa Alicia are famous for their transparency and their astonishing turquoise color. It is so clear that, even at a certain depth, we can see the seabed without difficulty. This makes it an exceptional place for snorkeling; although there are no large reefs, the possibility of observing small fish and rock formations is constant. What we like most about these waters is their remarkable calmness. Protected from strong ocean currents, Playa Alicia bay is like a giant natural swimming pool, making it perfectly safe for swimming, even for the youngest in the family or for those who do not feel very comfortable in open waters. The water temperature is consistently warm and pleasant throughout the year, inviting you to dive in and enjoy a refreshing dip at any time of the day. Without a doubt, these characteristics position it as one of the most attractive Puerto Plata beaches for swimmers.
