As lovers of virgin beaches and charming corners, we were absolutely captivated by its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.

The palm trees sway gently to the rhythm of the Caribbean breeze, whispering ancient secrets, while the waves, with their constant ebb and flow, invite meditation and deep rest. How to Get to Playa Arroyo Salado

Getting to Playa Arroyo Salado is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible, although we recommend going with your own or a rented vehicle for greater comfort and freedom. We departed from Santo Domingo, and the trip took approximately two and a half to three hours, depending on traffic. The most common route is to take the Autopista del Nordeste (Samana Highway) and then turn off towards Nagua. From Nagua, the beach is about 20-30 minutes east, following the coastal road that leads to Cabrera and Río San Juan. The signs are usually clear, and the local people are very friendly if you need to ask.

From Santo Domingo

• By car: The most practical option. Take the Autopista del Nordeste (toll road), then the DR-5 towards Nagua. Once in Nagua, follow the signs east along the coastal road (DR-5) towards Cabrera. Playa Arroyo Salado will be on your right. The journey is scenic, passing through coconut groves and small towns. Make sure you have enough fuel and perhaps some cash for the tolls.

From Samaná/Las Terrenas

• By car: Approximately an hour and a half to two hours. Take the road towards Nagua, and once there, follow the directions mentioned above. It is a beautiful route, with views of the ocean and lush tropical vegetation.

Public Transportation

• It is possible to get there using public transportation, although it requires more patience and perhaps several transfers. From major cities like Santo Domingo or Santiago, you can take a bus to Nagua. Once in Nagua, you would have to take a 'guagua' (local minibus) or a motoconcho (motorcycle taxi) to the beach. We preferred the autonomy of a car, but if you are looking for a more local experience, this is a viable option. Just remember that the frequency may be lower and the schedules more flexible.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa Arroyo Salado, the first thing that comes to mind is the exquisite quality of its sand and the transparency of its waters. The sand here is a pale golden hue, incredibly fine and soft underfoot. It is the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot for hours, feeling its warmth and silky texture. We spent much of our time simply strolling along the shore, enjoying the sensation and the sea breeze. You won't find rocks at the entrance to the sea, making it ideal for everyone.

The waters of Playa Arroyo Salado are simply spectacular. Their color varies from a light turquoise at the shore to a deep blue beyond the breakers, a distinctive feature of the beaches of the Dominican Republic. They are remarkably calm, protected by the shape of the bay and, at times, by nearby reefs that attenuate the waves. This makes it a safe and pleasant place to swim, especially for children. The water temperature is always warm, like a caress, inviting us to immerse ourselves and relax completely. Visibility is excellent on sunny days, allowing you to appreciate the seabed and some small fish that venture near the shore. It is truly a paradise for sea lovers.

Services and Facilities

Unlike more developed beaches, Playa Arroyo Salado maintains a rustic and natural charm, which means the services and facilities are simpler but sufficient to enjoy a splendid day. We highly value this authenticity.

Chiringuitos and Restaurants

• Along the beach, you will find several chiringuitos and small, locally-run restaurants. This is where you will truly immerse yourself in Dominican gastronomic culture. Don't expect sophisticated menus, but rather fresh and delicious dishes prepared on the spot. We enjoyed some freshly caught fried fish, accompanied by tostones and rice, a delight you cannot miss. They also offer refreshing drinks, cold coconuts, and, of course, the famous Presidente beer. It is the perfect place for a relaxed lunch with sea views.

Umbrellas and Sun Loungers

• At many of the chiringuitos, or independently, it is possible to rent umbrellas and sun loungers for a modest price. This is ideal for protection from the Caribbean sun and for enjoying additional comfort. We always opt to rent a few sun loungers so we can read and rest quietly under the shade of a palm tree or an umbrella.
