How to get to Praia del Meco

Getting to Praia del Meco is part of the adventure, and although it is not in the center of a big city, access is relatively simple, especially if we travel by car. Its location, not far from Lisbon, makes it an excellent option for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

By car

For us, the car is the most comfortable and recommended option to reach this `Setúbal beach`. From Lisbon, the journey takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. We can take the A2 south and then turn off onto the A33 and N378 towards Sesimbra. Once near Sesimbra, signs for 'Meco' or 'Praia do Moinho de Baixo' will guide us without problems. The road winds through green landscapes and small villages, already immersing us in the rural atmosphere of the area.

Upon arrival, we will find several parking options. There are large designated dirt areas near the main beach accesses, especially in the more northern part, known as Praia do Moinho de Baixo. During the high season, some of these parking lots may be paid, but they generally offer enough space. It is advisable to arrive early on busier days to secure a good spot.

By public transport

While it is possible to get there by public transport, it is an option that requires more planning and patience. From Lisbon, we can take a bus from the TST company (Transportes Sul do Tejo) to Sesimbra. Once in Sesimbra, we would have to look for a local bus or a taxi to take us to Meco. The frequency of these local buses is not very high, especially outside the high season, so it is essential to check the schedules in advance. For us, it is a viable option if we are not in a hurry and want to enjoy the scenery without worrying about driving.
