How to Get to Praia de Vale dos Homens

Getting to Praia de Vale dos Homens is part of the adventure and requires a bit of planning, but the reward is well worth the effort. We always advise traveling by car, as public transport is very limited in this wilder part of the Vicentine coast. From Aljezur, the nearest town and a key reference point, the journey is relatively short and picturesque, about 10-15 minutes by car. You must follow the signs towards the coast, venturing into rural landscapes and the characteristic vegetation of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. The road, although narrow in some sections, is usually in good condition and offers charming views of the countryside.

Route from Aljezur

Once we leave Aljezur, we head west. The signs, although not always abundant, will guide us towards the beaches of the area, among which is Praia de Vale dos Homens. The path takes us through small hamlets and pine areas, where the pure country air mixes with the sea breeze. It is a journey that invites you to roll down the windows and enjoy the scents of nature. We recommend having a GPS or a map application handy, as some forks can be confusing, especially for those visiting the area for the first time. Parking and Beach Access

Upon arriving near the beach, we will find a parking area, generally of beaten earth, located at the top of the cliff. This parking is free and, although it can fill up in high season, there is usually enough space given the less crowded nature of this beach compared to others. From here, the view of the ocean and the coastline is simply spectacular, offering a first taste of what awaits us. Once the vehicle is parked, access to the sand is via a long wooden staircase that descends the cliff. This descent, although requiring some physical effort, is not excessively difficult and is well-maintained. However, it is important to consider that it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or for baby strollers, which reinforces the 'wild' and less accessible character of Praia de Vale dos Homens. We advise wearing comfortable and secure footwear for the descent and ascent, and not carrying too many things to facilitate the journey.

The Sand and the Water

Praia de Vale dos Homens welcomes us with an expanse of golden sand, fine and soft to the touch, stretching for about 250 meters.
