How to Get to Praia de Salir do Porto

Getting to Praia de Salir do Porto is relatively straightforward, and the journey itself is part of the adventure, especially if we're coming from Lisbon or Porto. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and flexible option to explore the Leiria region and its surroundings, as it allows us to move at our own pace and discover hidden corners.

By Car

If we travel from Lisbon, the journey is approximately one hour and twenty minutes (about 100 km) via the A8 motorway heading north. The A8 is a toll road, but it's in excellent condition and offers a fast and pleasant trip. We should take the exit towards Caldas da Rainha/São Martinho do Porto and follow the signs to Salir do Porto. The signage is clear and will guide us without problems to our destination. If we come from the north, from Porto, the trip is a bit longer, around two and a half hours (about 230 km), also mainly via motorway (A1 and then A8). It's a journey worth taking for the landscapes we'll discover along the way.

Once we approach Salir do Porto, we'll find several parking options. Generally, there are free parking areas near the beach, although in high season (July and August, especially on weekends) it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, so we recommend arriving early. We always advise looking for parking on the surrounding streets or in designated parking lots and then taking a short walk to the sand. The walk is pleasant and allows us to soak up the local atmosphere before reaching the beach.

By Public Transport

If we prefer public transport, the most viable option is to take a bus to Caldas da Rainha, which is the largest and best-connected city in the area. From there, we can take a local bus or a taxi to Salir do Porto. However, we must consider that the frequencies of local buses can be limited, especially outside the high season. From our experience, we know that public transport in this region is more suitable for trips between main cities, and to get to the beach itself, the car or a taxi from Caldas da Rainha or São Martinho do Porto (which is only a few kilometers away) are the most practical alternatives. The Caldas da Rainha bus station is well connected to Lisbon and other major cities in Portugal.

From Nearby Towns

For those staying in nearby São Martinho do Porto, Salir do Porto is only about 5-10 minutes away by car. It's even possible to walk there via a coastal trail that offers spectacular views of the bay and the dune, a hike we highly recommend for nature and hiking lovers. It's a wonderful way to appreciate the beauty of the coast and arrive at the beach feeling the sea breeze on your face. We can also opt for a bicycle trip, as the area has some cycling routes connecting the coastal towns.
