How to get to Praia de Quarteira

Getting to Praia de Quarteira is quite straightforward, given its excellent location in the central Algarve. We always recommend planning your trip in advance, especially if you're travelling during the high season.

By plane

The most comfortable option for most international travellers is to fly to Faro Airport (FAO). This airport is very well connected to major European cities and is only about 20-25 kilometres from Quarteira. Once there, you have several options to reach your destination:

• Car rental: This is the option we prefer, as it gives you total freedom to explore the region at your own pace. There are many car rental companies at the airport.
• Taxi or private transfer: A quick and direct option, ideal if you're travelling with a lot of luggage or prefer comfort. You can book in advance.
• Bus: There are bus connections from the airport to Faro and then to Quarteira, although it can be a bit slower and require transfers.

By car

If you're coming from other parts of Portugal or Spain, the A22 motorway (Via do Infante) is the main artery running through the Algarve. Quarteira has a well-signposted exit. The journey from Faro takes about 20 minutes. Once in Quarteira, finding parking can be a challenge in summer, but there are several paid parking areas and some free ones a little further away from the beachfront.

By public transport

There are regular bus lines connecting Quarteira with nearby cities such as Faro, Loulé and Vilamoura. Quarteira's bus station is centrally located, making it easy to access the beach and accommodation.

The sand and the water

The water

The waters of Praia de Quarteira are generally calm and crystal clear, with a gentle slope that makes entry very safe, especially for the little ones. There are no strong currents or large waves, making it an excellent place for swimming, floating or simply splashing around. The water temperature, especially during the summer months, is very pleasant, inviting long, refreshing swims under the Portuguese sun.
