It is one of those Portugal beaches that invites you to stay, to feel the sea breeze, and to let time stand still. Its imposing ochre cliffs, sculpted by wind and sea, not only offer a spectacular backdrop but also protect us from the winds, creating an ideal microclimate for enjoying the sun.

When visiting Praia de Porto de Mós, we encounter a landscape that combines the force of nature with the serenity of the Atlantic. Its waters, of an inviting crystal-clear blue, are generally calm, making it a fantastic option for families with young children. But not only that, its spaciousness allows us to always find a spot for ourselves, even on the busiest days. How to get to Praia de Porto de Mós

Getting to Praia de Porto de Mós is relatively straightforward, and the options vary depending on our preference and starting point. If we are coming from Lagos, which is most common, we have several alternatives that make access very comfortable.

By car

For us, the most practical option if we have luggage or are traveling with children is usually the car. From the center of Lagos, the journey is short, just about 5 to 10 minutes by car. We just need to follow the signs towards the west coast. The beach has a large free parking lot right behind the sand line, which is a great advantage, especially in high season. This saves us the stress of looking for a spot and allows us to go directly to the beach with everything needed for a perfect day under the Algarve sun.

By bus

If we prefer not to drive, or if we are staying in Lagos without our own vehicle, we can use public transport. The Lagos urban bus network, known as 'A ONDA', has a line connecting the city center with Praia de Porto de Mós. It is an economical and sustainable option that allows us to enjoy the scenery without worries. The schedules are usually frequent during the summer months, although it is advisable to check them in advance, as they may vary.

Walking or by bicycle

For the more active, or if we simply want to enjoy a pleasant walk, Praia de Porto de Mós is accessible on foot or by bicycle from Lagos. There is a coastal trail that offers spectacular views of the ocean and cliffs. It is a walk of about 30 to 40 minutes from the center of Lagos, depending on our pace, and it is a fantastic way to burn some calories before relaxing on the sand. However, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and carrying water, especially on hotter days.

The sand and the water

Praia de Porto de Mós welcomes us with an extensive carpet of fine, golden sand, characteristic of the Algarve. It is a soft, pleasant-to-the-touch sand, perfect for laying out our towel and enjoying long hours of sun, or for the little ones to build sandcastles and play without worries. The beach's spaciousness, about 800 meters long, means we will rarely feel crowded by the multitude, even in mid-August, which is always a plus for us seeking space and tranquility.

Thanks to the natural protection offered by the surrounding cliffs, the sea tends to be calmer here than at other beaches exposed to the Atlantic. This makes it an ideal place to swim safely, practice snorkeling near the rocks, or simply float and be carried by the sea breeze. The water temperature, although it is the Atlantic, becomes very pleasant during the summer months, offering us a refreshing relief from the heat of the sun. The water quality is consistently high, as reflected in its Blue Flag distinction, a seal of excellence that gives us total confidence.
