Praia dos Três Castelos is a canvas of contrasts, where the gold of its cliffs blends with the turquoise blue of the Atlantic and the immaculate white of its sand. It is an extension of the famous Praia da Rocha, but with a distinctive character, more intimate and with corners that invite exploration. How to Get to Praia dos Três Castelos

Getting to Praia dos Três Castelos is relatively easy, given its proximity to Portimão, one of the most important cities in the Algarve. We usually opt for the car, as it gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. From Faro, the journey takes about an hour via the A22, a toll motorway, or via the N125, a more scenic national road but with more traffic.

By Car

If you're coming from Faro or any other major city in the Algarve, the A22 will take you directly to the vicinity of Portimão. Once in Portimão, follow the signs to Praia da Rocha, and from there, Praia dos Três Castelos is easily accessible. There are parking areas, both paid and some free zones on adjacent streets, although they can be quite busy during high season. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer not to drive, public transport is an excellent option. From Faro, you can take a train or bus to Portimão. Once at the train or bus station in Portimão, there are several urban bus lines (like Portimão's 'Vai e Vem') that will take you to the Praia da Rocha area, from where Praia dos Três Castelos is a short walk away. The frequency of these buses is good during the day, especially in summer.

On Foot or by Bicycle

If you are already staying in the Portimão or Praia da Rocha area, the beach is perfectly accessible on foot. In fact, a walk along the promenade connecting these beaches is a highly recommended activity. For the more active, the bicycle is another fantastic option, with bike lanes that facilitate access along the coast.

The Sand and Water

Praia dos Três Castelos is distinguished by the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. The fine, golden sand is a true pleasure for the feet, inviting long barefoot walks along the shore. We love the soft feeling under our feet while the sun caresses our skin. It's the kind of sand that doesn't stick excessively and is easy to clean, which is always a plus when we go with children.

The Atlantic waters in this area are often surprisingly calm, especially on days without strong wind. Their color ranges from an intense blue in the distance to turquoise and emerald tones near the shore, reflecting the sky and the cliffs. The water clarity is remarkable, making it ideal for a refreshing dip or for observing marine life with snorkeling gear near the rocks.

Although the water temperature in the Algarve is generally cooler than in the Mediterranean, in the summer months (July to September) it becomes very pleasant for swimming, reaching temperatures that invite you to stay for a while. Off-season, it's perfect for walking along the shore and enjoying the sea breeze, although swimming might be only for the bravest.

• Parking: As mentioned, there are parking options nearby, which facilitates access if we arrive by car.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: During the beach day and on the promenade adjacent to Praia da Rocha, we will find a good selection of chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or a more elaborate meal, always with sea views. The gastronomic offering is varied, from quick snacks to fresh fish dishes.
• Lifeguard Services: During the bathing season, the beach has lifeguard services, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially if we go with small children. The flags indicate the sea conditions.
• Sun Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: For those who prefer not to carry their own equipment, there are areas where you can rent sun umbrellas and sun loungers for the day, allowing us to relax comfortably under the Portuguese sun.
• Equipment Rental: It is possible to rent equipment for light water sports, such as paddle surf boards or kayaks, which adds an extra element of fun to the beach day.
