How to Get to Praia de Boca do Rio

Getting to Praia da Boca do Rio is part of the adventure and, at the same time, a relatively simple task if traveling by car, which is the most recommended means of transport for exploring this area of the Algarve. Although the beach is close to Faro in regional terms, its more precise location is in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in the westernmost part of the Algarve. We often say that the best way to experience the true essence of this region is with the freedom offered by a vehicle.

From Faro and the Airport

If your starting point is Faro, where the Algarve's main airport is located, the journey to Praia da Boca do Rio will take approximately one hour and twenty minutes by car. You should take the A22 motorway (Via do Infante) heading west, towards Lagos and Sagres. Once you approach Lagos, you will take the exit onto the N125 and follow the signs towards Vila do Bispo and, finally, Budens or Salema. From Budens, the beach is just a few minutes' drive away, well signposted by rural roads leading directly to an informal parking area.

From Lagos or Sagres

From Lagos, the trip is much shorter, around 20-25 minutes. You will follow the N125 or secondary coastal roads heading west. From Sagres, the journey is even shorter, about 10-15 minutes, following the N125 heading east. In both cases, you should watch for signs indicating 'Boca do Rio' once you are near Budens. The final access to the beach is via a well-maintained dirt road, suitable for most vehicles.

Parking

Upon arrival, you will find a spacious, unpaved parking area, just behind the beach. It's a dirt parking lot, free and unsupervised, but there is usually enough space even in high season, given the less crowded nature of this beach. From the parking lot, a short walk will take you directly to the sand. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the final stretch and, if you visit in summer, arriving early to secure a good spot and enjoy the morning tranquility of Praia de Boca do Rio beach.

The Sand and the Water

Praia da Boca do Rio welcomes us with an expanse of fine, golden sand, soft to the touch and perfect for long barefoot walks or simply lying down and relaxing in the sun.
