How to Get to Praia de Aver-o-Mar

If you are coming from the city of Porto, the most comfortable and efficient option is to use the metro. Line B of the Porto Metro connects directly to Póvoa de Varzim. Once at Póvoa de Varzim station, you can opt for a short walk (approximately 15-20 minutes) to the beach, take a local bus, or even a taxi, which will drop you off right at the sand.

By Car

If you prefer the comfort of a car, access is via the A28, a highway connecting Porto with northern Portugal. The exit to Póvoa de Varzim is well signposted. Once in the city, follow the signs to 'Praias' or 'Aver-o-Mar'. You will find several parking areas, some paid and some free, especially as you move a bit away from the center of the promenade. We always recommend arriving early during the high season to secure a good spot.

Alternative Public Transport

In addition to the metro, there are intercity bus lines connecting Póvoa de Varzim with other nearby towns and the city of Porto, making access to the Porto beach easier for those who prefer not to drive. The public transport network in Portugal is quite efficient, and schedules are usually available online or at stations.

The Sand and Water
