How to Get to Praia de Afife

Getting to Praia de Afife is relatively straightforward, and the transportation options are varied, making it accessible for both local visitors and international tourists. We always recommend planning the route in advance, especially if traveling during the high season.

By Car

For many, the car is the most comfortable option, as it allows for greater flexibility to explore the surroundings. From Porto, the journey takes approximately an hour and a half, following the A28 north towards Viana do Castelo. Once in Viana, or even before reaching the city, you need to follow the signs to Afife. The beach is well signposted, and there are several parking areas, some free and others paid, especially near the chiringuitos and restaurants. We recommend arriving early in the summer months to secure a good spot, as parking can fill up quickly.

By Train

A charming and eco-friendly alternative is the train. The railway line connecting Porto to Valença has a stop at Afife station itself. From there, the beach is within walking distance, about a 15-20 minute walk, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant stroll through the village before reaching the sand. It's an excellent option for those who prefer to avoid the stress of parking and enjoy the scenery during the journey.

By Bus

There are also bus connections from Viana do Castelo and other nearby towns. Local lines usually have stops in the center of Afife, from where you can walk to the beach. Although it may be a little less frequent than the train, it is a viable option for those staying in Viana do Castelo and wishing to take a day trip to this magnificent Praia de Afife beach.

The Sand and Water

The sand of Praia de Afife is one of its greatest attractions. We find a fine and golden sandy expanse, which stretches majestically along the coast, creating a landscape of great breadth.
