How to get to Praia da Madalena

Getting to Praia da Madalena is surprisingly simple, given its excellent location and the various transport options available. For us, accessibility is key when choosing a beach, and Madalena does not disappoint in this aspect. Whether we are coming from the center of Porto or from any other point in the region, we have several ways to reach this coastal paradise.

By car

If we opt for the comfort of our own vehicle or a rental car, the journey from Porto is short and direct. We can take the A1 or A29 heading south, following the signs towards Vila Nova de Gaia and then towards Madalena. The trip usually takes between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on traffic. Once in the beach area, we will find several parking options, both free and paid, especially on the adjacent streets and near the chiringuitos. It is important to consider that, during the summer months and on weekends, parking can be busier, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.

By public transport

Public transport is an excellent alternative, especially if we prefer not to worry about parking. From Porto, we can take a bus from the STCP or Resende company that will drop us off a few meters from the beach. The bus lines connecting the center of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia with Madalena are frequent and efficient. We can check specific schedules and routes at the stops or through public transport apps.

Another option is to use the train. We can take a train from São Bento or Campanhã station in Porto to Granja or Valadares stations, which are a reasonable distance from the beach. From there, we can opt for a short taxi ride or a local bus to get directly to the sand. For us, this combination of train and bus or taxi is a comfortable and scenic way to approach the coast.

By bicycle

For cycling enthusiasts, the coast of Vila Nova de Gaia offers a fantastic cycle path that connects several Porto beaches and their surroundings. We can rent bicycles in Porto or Gaia and enjoy a pleasant ride along the sea to Praia da Madalena. This is, without a doubt, one of our favorite ways to explore the area, combining exercise with spectacular views of the Atlantic. The cycle path is safe and well-maintained, making this a pleasant journey for all ages.

The sand and the water

When stepping onto Praia da Madalena, one of the first things that captivates us is the quality of its sand. We find ourselves on an extensive carpet of fine and golden sand, stretching for approximately one kilometer. This characteristic makes it the ideal place to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spread out our towel and enjoy the sun. The cleanliness of the sand is notable, a reflection of the beach's commitment to its Blue Flag standards.

The waters of Praia da Madalena are typically Atlantic: cool and invigorating. The seabed is predominantly sandy, although in some areas we can find small rocky formations, which add a touch of interest to the landscape and are home to small marine fauna, ideal for those who enjoy occasional snorkeling. For us, the combination of soft sand and clean waters is the perfect recipe for an unforgettable beach day.

Praia da Madalena is a beach that stands out for its excellent infrastructure and the wide range of services it offers, designed to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all its visitors. We like a beach to be not only beautiful but also functional, and Madalena more than meets this expectation.

Among the most important services, we find the presence of lifeguards during the bathing season, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we are with children. Safety is a priority here, and the lifeguard team is always attentive to any eventuality.

For our comfort, the beach has several showers and public toilets/WCs, clean and well m
