How to Get to Praia de Ribeira do Cavalo

The most common way to access it is via a hiking trail that starts from a high point on the road connecting Sesimbra to Setúbal, within the Parque Natural da Arrábida.

The starting point of the trail is near the old Outão cement factory. There is an area where you can park the car, although in high season it can be difficult to find a spot. From there, the descent begins. The trail is steep, uneven, and, in some sections, quite slippery, especially if it has rained recently or if the ground is very dry and loose. We strongly recommend wearing appropriate footwear, such as trekking shoes or hiking boots, and avoiding sandals or flip-flops at all costs. The downhill journey can take between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on each person's agility, and the uphill journey, of course, is more demanding and can take longer. It is crucial to bring water, sunscreen, and, if possible, some food, as there are no services on the beach.

Sea Access: Kayak or Boat

For those who prefer to avoid the hike or are looking for a different perspective, Praia de Ribeira do Cavalo is also accessible by sea. From the port of Sesimbra or from Portinho da Arrábida, you can rent kayaks or paddleboards, or even hire excursions on small boats that will take you directly to the beach. This option is fantastic for enjoying the views of the Arrábida coast from the sea and is much less physically demanding. Furthermore, it allows us to explore the caves and rock formations near the beach. For us, this is an excellent alternative, especially if traveling with young children or people with reduced mobility, for whom the footpath might be too difficult.
