Today we are going to immerse ourselves in the serene and captivating beauty of Praia do Evaristo, a cove that, despite its modest size, has stolen our hearts with its unique charm. Located in the municipality of Faro, although closer to vibrant Albufeira and picturesque Armação de Pêra, this Faro beach is a true treasure that invites us to disconnect and marvel at nature at its finest.

When we talk about Portugal beaches, we often think of the extensive sands of Alentejo or the wild waves of the Vicentine Coast, but the Algarve, and particularly Praia do Evaristo, offers us a different experience: sheltered coves, turquoise waters and rock formations sculpted by time that create postcard-perfect landscapes. It is a place where time seems to stand still, where the sound of the waves and the cry of seagulls are the only soundtrack, and where every corner offers a new perspective that invites photography and contemplation. Without a doubt, it is a must-stop for those seeking the authentic essence of the Algarve beaches.

How to get to Praia do Evaristo

Getting to Praia do Evaristo is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible, although it requires a bit of attention to avoid getting lost on the rural roads of the Algarve. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and practical option for exploring this region. From Faro, the district capital, the journey takes approximately 40-50 minutes by car, following the A22 or the national roads that wind through the interior. If we are coming from Albufeira or Armação de Pêra, the trip is much shorter, about 10-15 minutes, making it a perfect half-day or full-day excursion from these tourist towns.

By car

To get there by car, the best thing is to put 'Praia do Evaristo' into our GPS. The beach is located west of Albufeira, near the village of Porches. There is limited parking right above the beach, which is a great advantage, although in high season it can fill up quickly. If we don't find a spot there, there are often parking options on nearby streets or in designated areas, although we may have to walk a few minutes. The road leading to the beach is narrow in some sections, but it is well signposted.

Public transport and other options

Public transport is not the most convenient option to get directly to Praia do Evaristo. Bus lines usually have stops in nearby towns like Armação de Pêra or Albufeira, but from there we would have to take a taxi, an Uber/Bolt or walk a considerable distance. For us, the freedom that the car gives us to explore the nearby coves and villages is unbeatable. Another interesting option, if we are hiking enthusiasts, is to walk from adjacent beaches via the coastal trails, although some sections can be a bit steep and are not suitable for everyone. It is a fantastic way to enjoy the panoramic views of the Algarve coast before reaching our final destination.

The sand and the water

One of the features that make Praia do Evaristo one of the most attractive Portugal beaches is, without a doubt, its sand and waters. The sand here is fine and golden, soft to the touch and perfect for laying out our towel and enjoying the sun. We won't find pebbles or annoying rocks on the shore, which makes it very comfortable for walking barefoot and for the little ones, who can play and build sandcastles without any problems. The predominant type of ground is, as expected, sand, which contributes to the feeling of comfort and warmth that this place exudes.

The waters of Praia do Evaristo are another of its great attractions. They are famous for being incredibly crystal clear and of a beautiful turquoise hue, which immediately invites a refreshing swim. Being protected by cliffs and rock formations, the cove usually has very calm waters, without big waves or strong currents, making it a safe and pleasant place to swim. The water temperature, as is usual in the Algarve, is warm during the summer months, ideal for staying in for long periods. The transparency of the water is exceptional, allowing us to see the seabed easily, making it perfect for activities like snorkeling, where we can observe the marine life hiding among the rocks.

Despite being a relatively small cove, Praia do Evaristo is very well equipped with services that guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay for all its visitors. We highly value finding these amenities, as they allow us to enjoy the beach without worries and with everything we need within reach. It is one of the reasons why this Faro beach remains one of our favorites.

Among the most notable services, we find the famous Restaurante Evaristo, a renowned establishment in the area that offers fresh grilled fish and delicious seafood, with spectacular sea views. It is the perfect place to enjoy a memorable meal or a refreshing drink in the afternoon. In addition to the restaurant, there are chiringuitos where we can have something more informal or buy ice creams and snacks. For our comfort, the beach has showers to wash off the sand and salt after swimming, as well as clean and accessible bathrooms/WC. During the bathing season, the lifeguard service is active, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially if we are traveling with children. We also have the option to rent sun umbrellas and sunbeds to relax
