How to Get to Praia do Afurada

Getting to Praia do Afurada is part of the adventure and, for us, an experience in itself. Being on Ilha da Culatra, access is exclusively by boat, which immediately immerses us in the spirit of disconnection. We can take a regular ferry from two main cities: Faro or Olhão. Both ports offer frequent connections to the islands of the Ria Formosa, with Farol (a village on Ilha da Culatra, very close to Afurada) being one of the destinations.

From Faro

From the Faro pier, ferries depart several times a day, especially during the high season. The journey is picturesque, winding through the channels of the Ria Formosa, a natural spectacle that prepares us for what's to come. It's advisable to check the schedules in advance, as they can vary depending on the season and day of the week. Once in Farol, Praia do Afurada is a short and pleasant walk along the shore or via the island's trails.

From Olhão

Olhão, a fishing town with a very particular charm, also offers ferry connections to Ilha da Culatra. The frequency is usually similar to Faro's, and the journey allows us to admire another perspective of the Ria Formosa. Both options are comfortable and give us the opportunity to enjoy the scenery even before setting foot on the sand. We recommend arriving early to secure a good seat and enjoy the journey without rush.
