How to Get to Praia de Vale Centeanes

Getting to Praia de Vale Centeanes is relatively straightforward, especially if traveling by car, which offers the most flexibility to explore this and other Algarve beaches. The beach is located in the municipality of Lagoa, very close to Carvoeiro, and a reasonable distance from the city of Faro, the provincial capital.

By Car

From Faro, the drive usually takes about 45-50 minutes, depending on traffic. We must take the A22 motorway (Via do Infante) heading west (Portimão/Lagos) and exit at junction 6 towards Lagoa. From Lagoa, the signs to Carvoeiro and then to Praia de Vale Centeanes are well marked. There is a free public parking lot at the top of the cliff, right next to the restaurant and the beach access. Although not huge, there are usually spaces, especially if we arrive early in the morning or late afternoon. During the peak summer season, it can fill up quickly, so we recommend planning your arrival.

Public Transport

Public transport can be a bit more complicated, but it's feasible. From Faro, we can take a train or bus to Lagoa or Portimão, and from there, a local bus (for example, the Vamus Algarve line 110, which connects Lagoa with Carvoeiro) that drops us nearby. However, the nearest stop may require a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, as buses don't usually go directly to the viewpoint. Another option is a taxi or a ride-hailing service from Lagoa or Carvoeiro, which is more convenient if we don't have a car.

Beach Access

Once at the viewpoint, access to the sand is via a well-maintained stone staircase. Although it's not an excessively long staircase, it does require a minimum of mobility, and therefore, full accessibility for people with reduced mobility or large baby strollers can be a challenge. However, the views from the top are spectacular and worth it even if you can only enjoy it from there.
