How to Get to Praia de Salema

Getting to Praia de Salema is relatively straightforward, although its somewhat remote location contributes to its charm and keeps it away from the crowds. We always prefer a car for exploring this area of the Algarve, as it gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover hidden coves and villages.

By Car

If you're coming from the east of the Algarve (Faro, Albufeira, Portimão), the most direct way is to take the A22 motorway (Via do Infante) towards Lagos/Sagres. Once past Lagos, you should take the exit onto the N125 towards Vila do Bispo/Sagres. From the N125, you'll find clear signs to turn off towards Salema. The road descending to the village is a bit narrow and winding, but the views it offers are spectacular. The journey from Lagos takes about 20-25 minutes.

Parking

Once in Salema, parking can be a challenge in high season, especially in August. There are some public parking areas, but they tend to fill up quickly. We advise you to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot. Some accommodations also offer private parking, which is a great advantage. Remember it's a small village and the streets are narrow, so drive carefully.

Public Transport

Public transport is a less comfortable but possible option. There are buses connecting Lagos with Salema, but the frequencies aren't very high, especially on weekends. If you rely on the bus, we recommend checking the schedules in advance to plan your day. For us, the flexibility of a car is unbeatable in this region.
