How to Get to Praia de Burgau

Getting to Praia de Burgau is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite accessible. We recommend a car as the most comfortable option for exploring the Algarve, as it gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover hidden corners.

By Car

If we arrive by plane at Faro Airport (FAO), the journey to Burgau takes about one hour and twenty minutes. We'll take the A22 motorway west towards Portimão/Lagos. Once near Lagos, we'll follow signs for Vila do Bispo or Sagres, and then turn off towards Burgau. The village is well signposted. Parking is available, although in the summer months it can be a challenge to find a spot near the beach, so we recommend arriving early. There is a public car park, though not very large, and some streets allow parking, but always respecting the signs and residents.

By Public Transport

Although not the most direct option, it is possible to reach Burgau by public transport. From Faro, we would take a train or bus to Lagos. From Lagos, there are local buses that connect to Burgau, although the frequency can be limited, especially on weekends or outside the high season. It's always advisable to check the updated timetables of local transport companies (such as Eva Transportes) before planning the trip.

The Sand and Water

Praia de Burgau delights us with fine sand of a soft golden color that invites us to lie down and relax under the Algarve sun. It's perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for feeling its pleasant texture under our feet as we walk along the shore. The type of ground on the beach is predominantly sand, which facilitates access and comfort when walking.

The waters of Burgau are another of its great attractions. They are astonishingly clear, with tones ranging from turquoise to deep blue, and most importantly, they are remarkably calm. The bay is sheltered by the surrounding cliffs, which protect it from currents and strong waves. This makes it an ideal place for swimming, especially for families with young children, who can enjoy a safe and fun swim. The water temperature, although cool in spring, becomes very pleasant during the summer months, inviting us to spend hours splashing and cooling off.

• Lifeguards: During the bathing season (generally from June to September), the beach has a lifeguard service, giving us greater peace of mind when enjoying the water.
• Sun Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: There are rental points for sun umbrellas and sun loungers, which saves us from carrying our own equipment and allows us to relax comfortably in the sun.
