How to Get to Praia do Relógio

Getting to Praia do Relógio is surprisingly easy, given its central location in Coimbra. For us, coming from outside, the city of Coimbra is easily accessible by road, train, or bus from major Portuguese cities like Lisbon and Porto. Once in Coimbra, the beach is located on the right bank of the Mondego River, right next to the bridge that gives it its name, the 'Ponte do Relógio' (although it is more popularly known by the name of the beach).

By Car

If we choose to drive, the A1 motorway connects us directly to Coimbra. Once in the city, signs for 'Parque Verde do Mondego' or 'Estádio Cidade de Coimbra' will lead us without difficulty to the vicinity of the beach. There are several parking areas, both free and paid, around the park, which facilitates access, especially in the summer months. We recommend arriving early during the high season to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

Coimbra has a good network of urban buses (SMTUC) with stops near the Parque Verde do Mondego. Several lines pass through the area, making access very convenient if we are staying in the city center or other areas. It is an excellent option to forget about the car and enjoy a walk through the city before or after the beach.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For us, one of the best ways to get to Praia do Relógio is on foot or by bicycle, especially if we are in the historic center of Coimbra. A pleasant walk along the banks of the Mondego, through the Parque Verde, takes us directly to the sand. The bike paths and pedestrian trails are well-maintained, offering a picturesque and safe route. This journey allows us to appreciate the beauty of the river and the city from a different perspective, preparing us for the relaxation that awaits.

The Sand and Water

We can swim with complete peace of mind, knowing we are in a monitored environment with the guarantee of optimal water quality. It is a refreshing and different experience from the maritime Coimbra beaches, but equally pleasurable.
