Introduction
Today we explore a truly special corner of the Portuguese coast, Praia de Apúlia. Located in the municipality of Esposende, within the district of Braga, this beach is much more than a simple stretch of sand; it's a canvas where nature, tradition, and tranquility merge. When thinking of Braga beaches, Apúlia stands out as a gem that invites us to disconnect in the authentic essence of northern Portugal.
The first thing that catches our attention are its iconic windmills. These traditional structures stand as silent guardians of the coast, adding a rustic and photogenic charm that distinguishes this beach. They are a living testament to local history and culture.
Praia de Apúlia presents itself as a versatile destination. It's a refuge for families, a paradise for relaxation by the Atlantic, and an inspiring setting for photography. With its fine golden sand, clean waters, and sea breeze, Apúlia offers us a serene and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for recharging. It is, without a doubt, one of the Portugal beaches that deserves to be explored at a leisurely pace.
How to Get to Praia de Apúlia
Getting to Praia de Apúlia is relatively straightforward. For us, the most comfortable option is by car. From Porto, the journey takes approximately 45-50 minutes via the A28. From Braga, about 30-40 minutes. In Apúlia, we will find several parking areas close to the beach. We always recommend arriving early in summer.
If we prefer public transport, we can take a bus from Braga or Esposende with the Transdev company. It's important to check the schedules in advance. For the more adventurous, there are coastal cycling routes, although they require good physical preparation.
The Sand and Water
When we set foot on Praia de Apúlia, we notice its fine sand of a soft golden color, very pleasant to the touch. The beach's expanse allows us to always find a quiet spot. The type of ground is predominantly sand, although in some points we can find small rocky formations that add character.
The waters of Praia de Apúlia are known for their cleanliness and clarity, an aspect reinforced by the recurrent Blue Flag distinction it receives. The water tends to be cool, even in summer, which for us is a refreshing relief. The tide is moderate and the waves are usually gentle, making it a safe beach for swimming, especially for children.
