How to Get to Praia de los Alteirinhos

Getting to Praia de los Alteirinhos is an exciting part of the adventure, as we delve into the beautiful Alentejo region. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and flexible option to explore this area of Portugal, allowing us to enjoy the landscapes and make spontaneous stops. If we are coming from Lisbon, the journey takes approximately two and a half to three hours. We will take the A2 motorway heading south, then turn off onto the IC1 and finally the N120 towards Odemira and Zambujeira do Mar. From Faro, in the Algarve, the trip is similar in duration, following the N120 north.

Access and Parking

Once we approach Zambujeira do Mar, the signage to the Praia de los Alteirinhos beach is clear. The beach is a short distance from the village center, which facilitates access. At the top of the cliffs overlooking the beach, we will find a spacious free Parking area, specially designed for visitors. This parking lot usually has enough space, even in high season, although it is always advisable to arrive early during the summer months to secure a good spot. From the parking lot, the descent to the sand is via a series of well-maintained stairs and a ramp, making access relatively easy for most visitors, though it is not fully accessible for people with very reduced mobility directly onto the sand.

Public Transport

Although the car is the most recommended, it is also possible to reach Zambujeira do Mar by public transport. The Rede Expressos company offers bus connections from Lisbon and other major cities in Portugal. Once in Zambujeira do Mar, Praia de los Alteirinhos is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk from the village center. Alternatively, we can take a local taxi for a quicker journey. We always advise checking bus schedules in advance, especially outside the high season, as frequency may be lower.
