How to Get to Playa San Crisanto

Getting to Playa San Crisanto is part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate the beauty of inland Yucatán before reaching the coast. From Mérida, the state capital, the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by car, covering a distance of about 80 kilometers. We recommend taking federal highway 176 towards Motul, and then turning off towards the coast on highway 27, which will take us directly to Telchac Puerto and, a little further on, to San Crisanto.

By Car

Driving is the most comfortable and flexible option. The road is in good condition and the scenery along the way is very picturesque, passing through small towns and henequen fields. We always advise renting a car at the airport or in Mérida to have total freedom of movement and be able to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

Public Transport

If you prefer public transport, you can take a bus or 'colectivo' (a shared van) from Mérida bound for Telchac Puerto. Once in Telchac Puerto, which is about 15-20 minutes from San Crisanto, you can take a local taxi or a 'mototaxi' (a motorbike with a passenger cabin at the back) which will drop you off at the beach. It's a more economical option, although it requires a bit more patience and coordination.

The Sand and Water

The experience at Playa San Crisanto begins with the feel of its sand. It's a pearly white color, incredibly fine and soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot for kilometers or simply lying down to sunbathe. The absence of rocks or pebbles on the shore makes it a very pleasant place for children to play and for those who enjoy long beach walks.

The waters of the Gulf of Mexico in this area are a spectacle in themselves. Ranging from an emerald green to a light turquoise, they are notably calm and shallow near the shore, extending this way for several meters out to sea. This makes them exceptionally safe for swimming, even for young children or those who are not experienced swimmers. The water temperature is warm and pleasant for most of the year, inviting us to take a dip and enjoy a relaxing swim without worrying about strong currents or big waves. The water is so clear that, on sunny days, you can see small fish swimming near your feet, adding a magical touch to the experience.

Playa San Crisanto is distinguished by its rustic atmosphere and its focus on community ecotourism, which means you won't find the large hotel infrastructures or resort complexes of other more developed destinations. However, this is precisely what gives it its special and authentic charm.

The available services are geared towards meeting basic needs and offering an experience close to the local culture:

• Chiringuitos and Local Restaurants: Along the beach, you'll find several palapas and small restaurants managed by the community. Here you can taste fresh fish and seafood of the day, prepared Yucatecan-style, as well as other typical dishes of the region. The freshness and homemade flavor are incomparable.
• Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: Many of the chiringuitos offer umbrella and sun lounger rentals, often on the condition of consuming something at their establishment. This allows you to enjoy the shade and comfort while admiring the landscape.
• Parking: Although there is no formal, signposted parking lot as such, it is possible to park your car in designated areas near the beach access points or next to the restaurants. We always recommend being respectful of the environment and neighbors when parking.
• Bathrooms/WC: Bathrooms are usually available at the restaurants and chiringuitos, for the exclusive use of their customers.
• Equipment Rental: Sometimes, some locals or residents informally offer kayak or paddleboard rentals, giving us the opportunity to explore the coast from the water.
