We have had the privilege of visiting it on multiple occasions, and each time it surprises us with its immaculate beauty. This gem, consistently ranked among the world's best beaches, is the epitome of Caribbean tranquility and beauty, a sanctuary of white sand and crystal-clear waters that invite limitless relaxation and enjoyment.

How to Get to Playa Norte

Getting to Playa Norte is part of the adventure and, honestly, it's quite straightforward. First, we must head to Cancún, Quintana Roo. From Cancún International Airport, we can take a taxi, an ADO bus, or a private transportation service to Puerto Juárez, which is the main departure point for ferries to Isla Mujeres.

Several ferry companies operate the Cancún-Isla Mujeres route, with Ultramar being the most well-known and frequent. Ferries depart regularly every 30 minutes from morning until night, and the journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes, offering beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. Once we disembark at the Isla Mujeres pier, Playa Norte is a short walk away. We always recommend walking from the pier, as it allows us to soak up the local atmosphere and sea breeze. It's about a 10-15 minute walk, following the signs or simply heading towards the northwest of the island. We can also opt for a local taxi or rent a golf cart, which is the most popular means of transportation on the island, to go directly to the beach or to our nearby accommodation.

The Sand and Water

The sand of Playa Norte is, in a word, sublime. It is an immaculate white color, so fine and soft that it feels like talcum powder under our feet. This characteristic not only makes it incredibly pleasant for walking barefoot but also helps keep the water cool and crystal clear, as it doesn't easily become cloudy. The composition of the sand, rich in pulverized coral, gives it that dazzling whiteness that contrasts wonderfully with the infinite shades of blue of the sea.

As for the water, it is the most distinctive and captivating feature of Playa Norte. It is warm, transparent, and of an unreal turquoise color that seems taken from a postcard. The most amazing thing is its shallowness; we can walk dozens of meters out to sea and the water will barely cover our waist. This condition, combined with the absence of significant waves, creates a gigantic natural pool, perfect for swimming, floating, and enjoying without worries. It is a place where even the little ones can splash safely, and where adults can completely relax without constant concern about currents. The underwater visibility is excellent, allowing us to appreciate minor marine life near the shore, although for deeper snorkeling, other areas of the island are more suitable.

Services and Facilities

Playa Norte is a well-equipped beach, designed to offer a comfortable and complete experience to its visitors. Along its length, we find a wide variety of services that cover all our needs during the day. Chiringuitos and restaurants abound, offering everything from quick snacks and refreshing drinks to full meals with local and international specialties. Many of these establishments have sun lounger and umbrella areas that we can rent for the day, allowing us to relax in the shade with all the comforts. At some of these beach clubs, showers and clean, well-maintained bathrooms/WCs are also offered, a detail we always appreciate after a good swim.

For those seeking a bit more activity, there are also equipment rental points for light water sports like paddleboarding or kayaking. Although the beach is known for its tranquility, these options add a touch of fun. The presence of street vendors is common, offering everything from local crafts to beach massages, although we always recommend negotiating prices and buying from formal establishments if we seek greater security. The island itself, being small, does not have a large parking lot for cars, but it does for golf carts and motorcycles, which are the usual means of transportation. Most visitors arrive on foot or by golf cart from their accommodations.
