How to Get to Playa Maroma

Getting to Playa Maroma is relatively straightforward, although it requires minimal planning due to its location between major tourist hubs and its more exclusive nature. Most international travelers arrive at Cancún International Airport (CUN), which is the main entry point to the Riviera Maya. From there, there are several options to reach this idyllic corner of Quintana Roo beach.

From Cancún International Airport (CUN)

• Private transfer: This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable and recommended option, especially if we are traveling with luggage or in a group. Numerous companies offer direct transfer services from the airport to hotels in the Playa Maroma area. The journey usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic and the exact location of our accommodation. It allows us to relax from the very first moment and enjoy the scenery.
• Car rental: If we prefer to have the freedom to explore the region at our own pace, renting a car is an excellent alternative. The route from the airport is direct via Federal Highway 307 heading south. Signage is clear, and access to the Playa Maroma resorts is usually well indicated. It is ideal for those planning excursions to nearby sites like Tulum, Playa del Carmen, or the cenotes.
• Taxi: Taxis are available at the airport, but they are often more expensive than pre-booked private transfers. It is important to agree on the fare before starting the trip to avoid surprises. For the return to the airport, hotels in the area usually have fixed rates or can arrange transportation.
• Colectivos or ADO buses: Although they are more economical options, they are not the most direct for Playa Maroma. We would have to take an ADO bus from the airport to Playa del Carmen, and from there, a taxi to the entrance of our resort in Playa Maroma. This involves a transfer and a longer travel time, so we do not recommend it if we are looking for speed and comfort.

From Playa del Carmen

If we are already in Playa del Carmen, Playa Maroma is about 15-20 minutes away by car to the north. We can take a taxi or a colectivo that drops us off on the main highway, although from there we would need another taxi or to walk to reach the beach, as most access points are through the private properties of the resorts. The most practical option is a direct taxi or a transportation service arranged by our hotel.

It is important to consider that public beach access in Maroma may be limited, as much of the coastline is occupied by resorts. However, all hotels have direct beach access for their guests. If we are not staying at one of them, we can access through some beach clubs that offer day passes.
