How to Get to Playa Los Almendros

Getting to Playa Los Almendros is part of the adventure and, although it is not a destination with easy mass access, this contributes to its exclusive charm and helps it preserve its natural essence. Generally, starting from Santo Domingo, the capital, the journey takes approximately an hour and a half to two hours by car, depending on traffic and the specific route. We recommend taking the 6 de Noviembre Highway and then connecting with the road leading to Baní, the main city of the Peravia province.

Once in the vicinity of Baní, you should head towards the coast, following the signs leading to areas like Matanzas or Las Salinas. Playa Los Almendros is located on this coastal strip. It is advisable to have your own or a rented vehicle, as direct public transport to the beach is limited or non-existent. Most of the main roads are in good condition, but the last few kilometers to the beach may be secondary roads, sometimes unpaved, which adds a touch of exploration to the trip. Regarding parking, you will find informal parking areas near the beach, where visitors usually leave their vehicles safely. It is a journey that, although requiring a bit of planning, is worth it for the reward of arriving at this idyllic destination.

The Sand and the Water

The first thing that will capture our attention when stepping onto Playa Los Almendros is the quality of its sand. We are faced with fine sand, of a light and soft tone that feels incredibly pleasant underfoot. It is the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot along the shore, to build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply to lay out a towel and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Its composition is predominantly sandy, without large rocks or pebbles that could hinder walking or comfort.

The waters of Playa Los Almendros are, without a doubt, one of its greatest attractions. As we have already mentioned, Playa Los Almendros is not a massified or highly developed beach, which contributes to its natural and pristine charm. However, this does not mean it lacks basic services to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. We will be pleasantly surprised to find some local chiringuitos, small huts or stalls where we can enjoy refreshing drinks, cold beers, and sometimes simple dishes of Dominican cuisine, such as fried fish or tostones. These establishments usually also offer umbrella and sunbed rental service, which is very convenient for protecting ourselves from the Caribbean sun and relaxing in style.

Regarding other facilities, it is important to consider that options are limited. Let's not expect to find modern showers or spacious changing rooms; the Bathrooms/WC are usually basic and associated with the chiringuitos. The beach lacks official lifeguard services, so caution is essential, especially if we are with children. The parking is informal, along the road or in areas set up by the chiringuitos themselves, but it is generally sufficient and safe. Although the infrastructure is not that of a luxury resort, the existing services are enough to enjoy a relaxed and authentic beach day, maintaining the essence of a less explored place.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa Los Almendros and, in general, the beaches of the Dominican Republic, coincides with the dry season, which runs from December to April. During these months, the climate in Peravia is ideal: temperatures are warm and pleasant, averaging 25-30°C, and humidity is lower. Most importantly, the chances of rain are significantly lower, ensuring us sunny days perfect for enjoying the sand and sea.
