How to Get to Playa La Ticla

Getting to Playa La Ticla is part of the adventure. It's not an easily accessible destination, which helps preserve its wild and authentic character. We recommend planning the trip in advance. The most common way to get there is by road, via Federal Highway 200 (the Pacific Coast Highway), which runs along much of the Michoacán coast. If you're coming from the north, for example, from Colima or Manzanillo, you'll need to head south. If you're coming from the south, like Lázaro Cárdenas, you'll go north.

From Lázaro Cárdenas

If your starting point is Lázaro Cárdenas, the journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by car, depending on road conditions. We suggest taking Federal Highway 200 towards Manzanillo/Colima. You'll pass through several small towns until you see the signs for La Ticla. It's a scenic road that winds through mountains and the ocean, offering spectacular views.

From Manzanillo/Colima

From Manzanillo, the trip is longer, around 3 to 4 hours. You should take Federal Highway 200 south, towards Lázaro Cárdenas. The road is generally good, but with some curves and sections that require caution. We recommend paying attention to the signs, as the entrance to La Ticla isn't a big illuminated sign, but rather a turnoff onto a local road that will take you directly to the beach.

Public Transportation

Although it's possible to get there by public transportation, it's less direct. There are buses that travel along Highway 200 and can drop you off at a nearby point, but from there you'll probably need a taxi or a local 'colectivo' to get to the beach. We always prefer the flexibility of a private or rented car to explore this area, especially if you're carrying surfboards or a lot of luggage.

The Sand and Water

The sand at Playa La Ticla is one of its distinctive features. We would describe it as 'mixed' type, with a combination of fine and coarse grains, in a dark tone that contrasts wonderfully with the deep blue of the Pacific. Water clarity can vary; on calm days without much sand movement, it can be quite clear, but with the characteristic swell, it's common for it to have a murkier tone due to suspended sand. Playa La Ticla is characterized by its rustic atmosphere and limited development, which contributes to its natural charm. We won't find large hotel complexes or shopping centers, but rather a service offering more focused on the needs of surfers and travelers seeking an authentic experience.

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach and in the small village, there are several 'enramadas' and local restaurants offering delicious fresh food, especially seafood and fish of the day. They are simple places but with an unmatched flavor and a spectacular view of the sea.
• Parking: Parking is usually informal, in designated areas near the restaurants or local accommodations. There are no large paved parking lots, but we always find a place to leave the car safely.
