How to Get to Playa Hermosa

Getting to Playa Hermosa is relatively easy, especially if we fly into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste. From there, the beach is only about 20-30 minutes by car, making it a very accessible destination for international tourists.

From Liberia Airport (LIR)

• Rental car: This is the most comfortable option and gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. Several rental companies have offices at the airport. The route is direct and well-signposted, mainly via Route 21 and then turning towards the coast. The journey is short and picturesque, crossing dry and tropical landscapes.
• Taxi or private transfer service: We can hire an official airport taxi or book a private transfer service in advance. This is an excellent option if we prefer not to drive and want to go directly to our accommodation without worries. Prices are reasonable for the comfort they offer.
• Shared shuttle: Several companies offer shared shuttle services connecting the airport with the main Guanacaste beaches. It's a more economical alternative than a private taxi, although travel time may be a bit longer due to stops at other hotels.

From Other Cities in Costa Rica

• From San José: If traveling from the capital, San José, the journey by car takes approximately 4-5 hours, depending on traffic and stops. We can take Route 1 (Inter-American Highway) north and then turn off towards Liberia. There are also direct bus services from San José to Liberia, and from there, we can take a local bus or taxi to Playa Hermosa.
• From Tamarindo or other nearby beaches: If we are already exploring other Guanacaste beaches, like Tamarindo or Flamingo, we can reach Playa Hermosa by car in about 1-1.5 hours. The coastal roads are generally good, although some may be gravel in certain sections, so a 4x4 vehicle can be useful, especially in the rainy season.
