When we arrive at Playa del Socorro, the first thing that strikes us is the contrast. The sand, of an intense volcanic black color, stretches majestically under the sun, framed by cliffs that narrate millennia of geological history. The Atlantic here shows its strength and character, with waves that invite both experienced surfers and those who simply wish to contemplate their ceaseless dance. How to Get to Playa del Socorro

Getting to Playa del Socorro is relatively straightforward, and the route is already part of the experience. If we're coming from the south of Tenerife, we'll take the TF-1 motorway towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and then connect with the TF-5 towards Puerto de la Cruz and, finally, Los Realejos. From the north, the TF-5 will take us directly. Once in Los Realejos, we'll find clear signs to the beach. The road that descends to it offers spectacular panoramic views of the coast and the ocean, so we recommend taking it easy and enjoying the landscape.

By Car

Undoubtedly, the car is the most comfortable option. The beach has a large, free parking lot, which is a big plus, especially in high season. Although it can fill up, there's usually turnover. From the parking lot, access to the sand is easy and direct, making it convenient to bring all your beach or surf gear.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are TITSA bus lines (guaguas) connecting Los Realejos with other towns on the island, including Puerto de la Cruz. From the center of Los Realejos, you may need to take a taxi or enjoy a walk, although the frequency of direct buses to the beach may be limited. We always recommend checking the updated TITSA schedules before planning your trip.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive feature of Playa del Socorro is certainly its black volcanic sand. For us, it's fascinating. It's not only aesthetically beautiful, creating a dramatic contrast with the blue waters of the Atlantic, but it also has a particular texture: it's fine and soft to the touch, despite its volcanic origin. Walking barefoot on it is a different sensation, and on sunny days, it tends to get quite hot, so watch your feet!

The Atlantic waters in this area are crystal clear and generally of excellent quality, which has earned the beach the Blue Flag distinction repeatedly. However, it's important to note that Playa del Socorro is a beach open to the ocean, with waves that can be strong. This makes it a paradise for surfers, but also demands caution from swimmers, especially those less experienced or families with young children. We always recommend paying attention to the lifeguards' instructions and the flags indicating the sea conditions.

• Showers and Toilets/WC: Essential for freshening up and maintaining hygiene after a swim in the sea. They are well-maintained and easily accessible.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Right on the beach, we find several chiringuitos and small restaurants where we can enjoy a cold drink, an ice cream, or a light meal with sea views. It's perfect for not having to go too far from the sand when hunger strikes.
• Equipment Rental: Given its popularity among surfers, it's common to find surf schools and equipment rental points (boards, wetsuits) near the beach. This is ideal if we want to try the surfing experience without having to carry our own gear.
• Sun Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: Although there isn't always a fixed rental service operated by the town council, some chiringuitos usually offer the possibility of renting umbrellas and sun loungers, which is very convenient for those seeking extra comfort and shade.
• Parking: As we already mentioned, the parking lot is large and free, greatly facilitating arrival by private vehicle.
