It's not just a beach; it's a refuge, a canvas where nature has painted a landscape of serene beauty, perfect for those looking to disconnect and reconnect. Located in the north of the island, this cove presents itself as a natural amphitheater, protected by pine-covered cliffs that plunge into the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. We, while exploring its shores, have felt firsthand that atmosphere of calm and well-being that characterizes it. How to Get to Playa del Puerto de San Miguel
Getting to Playa del Puerto de San Miguel is relatively straightforward, and the route itself is part of the experience, offering panoramic views of the rural interior and the northern coast of Ibiza. We, from our experience, recommend several options to access this idyllic corner of the Balearics.
By Car
For many, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option for exploring Ibiza, and getting to Playa del Puerto de San Miguel is no exception. From the capital, Ibiza city (Eivissa), the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes, covering about 25 kilometers. We must take the C-731 road towards Sant Antoni and then turn off to the north following signs for Sant Miquel de Balansat and, finally, Port de Sant Miquel. The roads are well-signposted and in good condition. If we're coming from Sant Antoni, the route is similar but a bit shorter, about 20-25 minutes. From the airport, the estimated time is about 35-45 minutes.
One of the great advantages of this beach is that it has its own Parking, which is a relief, especially in high season. We'll find several parking areas, both free and paid, a short distance from the sand. Our advice is to arrive early during July and August to secure a good spot, as the beach is very popular.
By Public Transport
Although the car offers more freedom, we can also reach Playa del Puerto de San Miguel using public transport. During the summer months, there are regular bus lines connecting the beach with Sant Miquel de Balansat and, from there, with other important towns like Ibiza city or Sant Antoni. We always advise checking the updated timetables of the Ibiza bus company (Líneas de Ibiza) before planning the trip, as they can vary by season. It's an economical and sustainable option, ideal if we don't want to worry about parking.
Other Means of Transport
For the more adventurous or those staying nearby, a bicycle can be an excellent way to get there, enjoying the rural landscape. However, one must consider that the terrain may have some slopes. Taxi services also exist, offering a direct and comfortable journey, though more costly. From some points on the island, especially from Portinatx or Sant Antoni, we can even find boat excursions that bring us close to this cove, offering a different perspective of the coast.
The Sand and the Water
When we talk about Playa del Puerto de San Miguel, the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters are, without a doubt, two of its most outstanding attributes. We, upon stepping onto its shores and immersing ourselves in its sea, experience a feeling of well-being and connection with nature that few beaches can offer.
The Sand: A Golden and Soft Blanket
The beach is characterized by its fine sand of a pale golden hue that invites you to walk barefoot. It's a sand soft to the touch, perfect for children's sandcastles and for spreading out a towel without worries. Its origin is due to the erosion of limestone rocks and marine sedimentation, which over the centuries have created this very pleasant bed. We always notice how this sand is not only comfortable but also contributes to the clarity of the water, as it doesn't easily become cloudy with movement. The type of ground is predominantly sand, although at the ends of the cove we can find some rocky formations that add interest to the landscape and are ideal for marine exploration.
The Water: A Mirror of Crystal
The waters of Playa del Puerto de San Miguel are, simply, spectacular. Their transparency is such that, from the shore, we can easily see the seabed. They are calm waters, of an intense turquoise blue that contrasts wonderfully with the green of the surrounding pines. This calm is due to the natural protection provided by the cliffs of the bay, which shelter it from strong winds and currents, turning it into a natural swimming pool. We always find it at a pleasant temperature during the summer months, ideal for prolonged swims and enjoying a refreshing dip.
The quality of the water is an aspect we value enormously, and Playa del Puerto de San Miguel has be
