How to get to Playa del Prat

Getting to Playa del Prat is relatively straightforward, making it a comfortable destination for a getaway. We always recommend planning the route in advance, although the signs are usually clear. The beach is located on the coast of Cabanes, in the province of Castellón, and is well connected by road.

By car

For us, the car is the most practical option for reaching Playa del Prat, as it offers flexibility and allows for easy exploration of the surroundings. If coming from the north or south, the Mediterranean Motorway (AP-7) is the main route. We must take exit 45 towards Oropesa del Mar/Cabanes and follow the signs to the coast. We can also opt for the N-340, which runs parallel to the coast and offers more picturesque landscapes, although the journey may be somewhat slower due to traffic and the urban areas it passes through. Once in the Cabanes or Torreblanca area, signs will guide us to the beach and the Natural Park. We will see that there are designated parking areas, especially in high season, although they are usually free, which is always a plus.

By public transport

While public transport is not as direct as by car, options exist. The nearest train stations are in Oropesa del Mar or Torreblanca, both with Cercanías (commuter) and Regional connections. From these stations, the best option would be to take a taxi or, in some cases, a local bus connecting to the coastal area, although frequency and availability can vary greatly outside the high season. We always advise checking specific schedules and routes in advance if you choose this option, as the beach is not located in an urban center with a direct intercity bus stop.

The sand and water

One of the characteristics that most catches our attention at Playa del Prat is its particular composition. Do not expect the fine, golden sand often associated with southern beaches, but rather a combination that gives it a unique character.

Type of sand and ground

The sand here is of a mixed type. Coarser grains predominate, and in some areas, it mixes with small pebbles or stones, giving it a very natural texture and a wilder appearance. This has its advantages: the sand does not stick as much to the skin or towels, and the feeling of walking barefoot is different, almost like a foot massage. The type of ground is predominantly sandy on the shore, but with that mix of gravel we mentioned. We like it for its authenticity, for how it integrates into the landscape of the Natural Park, and for the feeling of being in a less 'tamed' place.

Water quality and characteristics

The waters of Playa del Prat are, in general, very clean and transparent, reflected in the frequent awarding of the Blue Flag, a badge of environmental quality. They are usually calm waters, with moderate or almost absent waves most of the time, making them ideal for swimming, especially for children. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, which adds an extra safety factor. We have enjoyed relaxing swims, observing the clarity of the seabed on the calmest days. The water temperature is pleasant during the summer months, inviting long dips and enjoyment of the sea breeze.

• Showers: Essential for washing off salt and sand after a refreshing swim. They are distributed along the beach, making them easy to use.
• Parking: As already mentioned, there are nearby parking areas, facilitating car access. Although not always paved, they serve their purpose and are free.
• Chiringuitos: During the high summer season, one or two chiringuitos (beach bars) are usually set up. These establishments offer refreshing drinks, ice creams, and light meals, ideal for a snack or an informal meal with sea views. We love being able to enjoy a good coffee or a cold beer without having to move too far from the shore.
