How to Get to Playa del Cuartel

Getting to Playa del Cuartel is part of the adventure and, fortunately, a fairly simple one. If we are coming from Cartagena, the journey is a pleasure in itself, skirting the coast and offering us spectacular views of the Mediterranean. We must take the road heading towards Mazarrón (the RM-332) and, upon reaching Isla Plana, turn off towards La Azohía via the RM-E22. La Azohía is a small and charming fishing village, and Playa del Cuartel is located nearby, often signposted or easily located by asking the friendly locals. The road is good and access is comfortable, making it a fantastic option for a day trip or a longer vacation.

Access and Parking

Once in La Azohía, Playa del Cuartel is accessible on foot or by car. Parking is usually informal, on the surrounding streets or in some designated area near the beach, especially if we visit outside the high season. During the summer months, we may have to walk a little further, but the walk is always worth it. We always recommend arriving early, especially in high season, to secure a good spot and enjoy the beach at its most tranquil moment. Do not expect large organized parking lots like in urban beaches, but rather parking more integrated with the natural environment and the small urban center. It's part of its charm, right? It allows us to feel more connected to the place and its slow pace. We must be honest: Playa del Cuartel is not a beach with large infrastructure or a long list of services. And, in our opinion, that is where much of its charm lies. It is a beach that values its natural essence and tranquility above all else. We will not find chiringuitos on the sand with loud music, nor souvenir shops, nor sunbed and umbrella rentals at every step here. The experience it offers is rather one of a direct connection with the environment, without artifice.

The most notable and practical service we can find, albeit informally, is Parking in the vicinity. As mentioned before, there are areas where we can leave the car, which is essential for our comfort. Beyond this, it is important that we come prepared with everything we might need: our own drinks and snacks, our towels and umbrella, and everything we consider essential for a perfect day under the sun. This allows us to have total control over our experience and adapt it to our tastes.
