How to Get to Playa de Zorkos

Getting to Playa de Zorkos is part of the adventure and gives us a first impression of the rural beauty of Andros. We always advise renting a vehicle upon arrival on the island, either at the port of Gavrio or in Chora, the capital. This gives us the freedom to explore Andros at our own pace and discover hidden coves like Zorkos.

From Gavrio, the main port, the journey to Playa de Zorkos usually takes about 40-50 minutes. We will take the main road east and then turn north following the signs. From Chora, the island's capital, the trip is a bit longer, approximately 50-60 minutes, and will take us through mountainous landscapes and picturesque villages. It is important to note that the last few kilometers before reaching the beach are usually on a dirt road. Although it is passable for most cars, it is advisable to drive with caution and at low speed, especially if we are not used to this type of road. This final stretch, although a bit bumpy, rewards us with spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and the promise of a pristine beach.

There are no direct and regular bus routes to Playa de Zorkos, which reinforces the idea that a car is the best option. Taxis can be an alternative, but their cost can be high, especially for round trips. We really enjoy the journey, as it allows us to appreciate the diversity of Andros's landscape, from its green valleys to its rocky slopes. Upon arrival, we will find an informal parking area, where we can leave our vehicle free of charge, just before descending to the sand. Accessibility, while not complicated, requires minimal planning, but the effort is worth it for the reward that awaits us.
