How to get to Playa de Zaton

Playa de Zaton is strategically located about 15 kilometres northwest of the historic city of Zadar, making it very accessible for travellers. For those arriving by plane, Zadar Airport (Zemunik) is the main gateway, located approximately 25 kilometres from the beach. From the airport, the most comfortable option is to rent a car, giving us the freedom to explore the region at our own pace. The journey is straightforward and well-signposted, generally taking about 25-30 minutes.

If we prefer not to drive, there are taxi services and private transfers from the airport directly to the Zaton Holiday Resort. For those already in Zadar, access is equally easy. We can take a local bus that connects Zadar with Zaton and other nearby coastal towns, although the schedules may be less flexible. By car, the trip from Zadar's centre is direct via the D306 road, and the resort has ample parking areas for visitors, which greatly facilitates arrival and stay. Good connectivity is undoubtedly one of the strong points of this Croatian beach.

The sand and the water

The first thing that caught our attention when stepping onto Playa de Zaton was the unique texture of its surface. Unlike other beaches that are purely sand or pebble, here we found a harmonious combination of both. The type of sand is a mix of fine sand and small pebbles polished by the sea, which provides a pleasant sensation underfoot and prevents the sand from sticking excessively. This mixed type of ground is ideal, as it offers the softness of sand for comfortable lounging and the clarity that pebbles bring to the water. It is a feature we greatly appreciate, especially for families with children, as it facilitates play and subsequent cleaning.

But if the sand won us over, the water completely captivated us. The Adriatic waters at Playa de Zaton are of astonishing transparency, allowing us to see the seabed with total clarity, even at some distance from the shore. They are incredibly calm and of a greenish-blue colour that invites constant bathing. The most notable feature is their shallowness, which extends quite a few metres from the shore, creating a kind of perfect natural pool for children to play safely and adults to relax without worries. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is delightfully warm, making every dip a true pleasure. Without a doubt, these characteristics position it as one of the best Zadar beaches to enjoy the sea.

For those seeking comfort under the sun, the beach offers sun umbrellas and sun loungers for rent, allowing us to relax fully without having to carry our own equipment. Safety is a priority, with a professional lifeguard team attentively watching over bathers throughout the day. Furthermore, the gastronomic offer is varied and delicious: from lively chiringuitos where you can enjoy a refreshment or a snack, to several restaurants serving local and international specialities, perfect for a more elaborate meal. For the more active, there are equipment rental points for water sports and a vibrant sports area for playing beach volleyball or football. And of course, the children's area with playgrounds and activities is always full of laughter. It is a Croatian beach that truly has everything thought out.
