If we seek to escape the hustle and bustle and immerse ourselves in the pure essence of the Mediterranean, Velanio is, without a doubt, one of those Skopelos beaches that must be on our list.

What distinguishes Velanio from other Greek beaches is its serene character and its acceptance of nudism, especially in its more remote section. Here, nature is displayed in all its splendor, with turquoise waters inviting a refreshing dip and an environment of fine pebbles and sand that blends with the surrounding vegetation. It is a place where time seems to slow down, allowing us to truly disconnect and enjoy the simplicity of island life. How to Get to Playa de Velanio

Getting to Playa de Velanio is part of the adventure and contributes to its feeling of exclusivity. Normally, the starting point is the town of Skopelos, from where we can take a local bus or a taxi to Stafylos beach. The journey is short and picturesque, winding through the island's lush geography. Once at Stafylos, we must walk to the far right end of the beach, where we will find a well-marked path that will lead us to Velanio.

The path between Stafylos and Velanio is a pleasant walk of about ten minutes, involving climbing a small hill and then descending towards the cove. It is an easy hike, but we recommend wearing comfortable shoes, especially if we plan to explore a bit beyond the sand. As we approach, the panoramic view of the Aegean that is revealed to us is simply spectacular, a preview of the beauty that awaits us at this magnificent Skopelos beach. The fact that it is not directly accessible by car helps preserve its tranquil and pristine atmosphere, keeping it away from the crowds that often gather at other, more accessible Greek beaches.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive feature of Playa de Velanio is its particular composition of sand and pebbles. It is not a typical fine, golden sand beach, but a charming mix of small, polished pebbles interwoven with coarser grains of sand. This combination, which we could describe as `mixed`, gives it a rustic and natural charm. The pebbles are smooth to the touch and warm pleasantly in the sun, inviting us to spread out our towel and relax. The `ground_type` is, therefore, also `mixed`, offering an interesting texture under our feet.

But if the sand and pebbles are special, the water at Velanio is simply sublime. The Aegean waters here are of astonishing clarity, with tones ranging from bright turquoise to deep blue, depending on the sunlight. They are incredibly clean and calm, making them perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Underwater visibility is excellent, allowing us to observe marine life in its natural habitat. Immersing ourselves in these waters is a purifying experience, a refreshing dip that completely revitalizes us. The water temperature is usually very pleasant during the summer months, inviting us to spend hours floating and enjoying the serenity of this corner of Skopelos.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Velanio is distinguished by its rather `wild` and less organized atmosphere compared to other Skopelos beaches. This is part of its charm, but it also means that services and facilities are limited, which is ideal for those seeking an experience closer to nature. However, we are not completely devoid of amenities.

During the high season, generally from June to September, we find a small `Chiringuito` or beach bar. This establishment, often a simple wooden structure, offers us refreshments, cold beers, some light snacks, and sometimes even fresh salads. It is the perfect place to take a break from the sun and enjoy a drink with sea views. Furthermore, the chiringuito usually has `Sun umbrellas and sunbeds` that we can rent for a modest price, which is very convenient for protecting ourselves from the sun and relaxing comfortably. It is important to remember that there are no official `Showers` or `Lifeguard` services at Playa de Velanio, so we must be cautious and responsible when swimming. There is also no direct `Parking` at the beach; we must leave the car at Stafylos and access it on foot, as mentioned earlier. This lack of major infrastructure helps maintain the `relaxed` and `naturist` atmosphere that we so value at Velanio.

Best Time to Visit

To fully enjoy Playa de Velanio and Skopelos beaches in general, choosing the right time for our visit is crucial. We consider that the best time to travel to Skopelos and discover Velanio is during late spring (late May and early June) or early autumn (September and early October). During these periods, the weather is exquisite: temperatures are warm but not stifling, the sun shines intensely, and the sea breeze is soft and refreshing.
