Introduction
Welcome to a corner of the Costa Brava that has us completely in love: Playa de Torre Valentina in the charming municipality of Calonge, Girona. For us, this beach represents the essence of a perfect Mediterranean holiday, combining the natural beauty of the coastline with an excellent range of services that guarantee comfort and enjoyment for all its visitors. When we think of a destination that has it all, from the tranquility of its waters to the vibrancy of its surroundings, this coastal gem always comes to mind. It's a place where time seems to stand still, inviting us to disconnect and fully immerse ourselves in the experience of the Girona coast.
When you step onto the sand of Playa de Torre Valentina, you realize you've arrived at a special place. Its name comes from the imposing 16th-century watchtower that stands at one end, a historical vestige that adds a touch of character and mystery to the landscape. We love how this beach achieves a perfect balance between being a popular destination and maintaining a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. It's ideal both for those seeking a quiet day of sun and bathing, and for those who wish to explore the cultural and scenic richness of the area. It is, without a doubt, one of those Girona beaches you must visit if you come to this wonderful province, a true emblem of what the Costa Brava has to offer.
How to Get to Playa de Torre Valentina
Getting to Playa de Torre Valentina is quite straightforward, making it an accessible destination for everyone. If you're coming by car, the best route is via the C-31, which connects much of the Costa Brava. From Girona city, the journey takes approximately 40-50 minutes, following signs to Palamós and then Calonge. Once in the municipality, the accesses to the beach are well signposted, and the silhouette of the tower will guide you. We always recommend using a GPS navigator for greater convenience, but the truth is it's easy to find your way in this coastal area.
Regarding parking, it's one of the advantages of this beach. Although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot right next to it, there are several parking areas, both free and paid, in the vicinity, a short walk from the sand. We usually arrive early to secure a good spot, especially on days with higher visitor numbers. There are also public transport options, with bus lines connecting Calonge with other nearby towns and with Girona train station. It's a good alternative if you prefer not to worry about the car, although for exploring the surroundings, your own vehicle always offers us greater freedom and flexibility to discover every corner of this beautiful Calonge beach.
The Sand and Water
Playa de Torre Valentina captivates us with the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. The sand is fine and a very pleasant golden hue, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply laying out a towel and enjoying the sun. It's not the type of sand that sticks excessively, which is always appreciated at the end of the day when it's time to pack up. The type of ground is predominantly sand, which greatly facilitates access to the sea and makes the bathing experience very comfortable and safe for the whole family.
The waters of this Calonge beach are, in our opinion, one of its greatest attractions. They are crystal clear, of an inviting turquoise blue color, and, more importantly, they are usually very calm, especially during the summer months. This is partly due to the natural protection offered by the bay, sheltering it from strong currents. The shallowness at the shore makes it ideal for children and for those who don't feel entirely comfortable in deep water, allowing for safe splashing. The water quality is consistently high, which has earned it the prestigious Blue Flag on numerous occasions, a distinction that for us is synonymous with excellence, safety, and a commitment to the environment. We love diving into its cool, clear waters, feeling the stress dissipate with every stroke in this wonderful Playa de Torre Valentina.
Services and Facilities
One of the reasons Playa de Torre Valentina is so popular is the excellent variety of services and facilities it offers, designed to maximize visitor comfort. We always feel very well looked after here, with everything needed for a perfect beach day. To begin with, it has an efficient lifeguard service that ensures the safety of bathers throughout the summer season, something that gives us great peace of mind, especially when we go with children or elderly people.
Furthermore, you'll find comfortable showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and accessible toilets/WCs, a fundamental detail for hygiene. For those seeking greater comfort, there is a sunbed and umbrella rental service, allowing you to enjoy the sun without having to carry all the gear from home. The beach also has several chiringuitos and restaurants right on the sand or very close by, where you can enjoy a refreshment, an ice cream, or a delicious meal with sea views. And, as we already mentioned, full accessibility is a strong point, with ramps and walkways that facilitate access for people with reduced mobility right to the water's edge, demonstrating this beach's commitment to inclusion and comfort for all. It also has a Children's Play Area for the entertainment of the little ones, making this Playa de Torre Valentina an ideal place for family leisure.
