Introduction
Welcome to Playa de Temara, one of those coastal corners that, once you know it, you always want to visit again! Located in the vibrant municipality of Sjirat-Temara, Morocco, this beach is a true treasure for those seeking a perfect combination of sun, sand, and culture. We, as beach tourism experts, have had the pleasure of exploring its charms and are ready to share every detail with you.
Playa de Temara is not just a stretch of sand; it's a meeting point, an oasis of fun and relaxation for locals and tourists alike. With its distinctive fine, golden sand that gently slopes into the calm waters of the Atlantic, it offers an idyllic setting for all kinds of activities. From the first rays of sun to the spectacular sunsets that paint the sky with warm colors, every moment here is a living postcard. It's a beach that feels alive, with a contagious energy that invites you to immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere. We love how it combines the comfort of an urban beach with the natural beauty of the Moroccan coast, offering an authentic and memorable experience.
How to Get to Playa de Temara
Getting to Playa de Temara is quite straightforward, given its proximity to major urban centers like Rabat and Casablanca. We always recommend planning the trip to ensure the best experience.
By Car
If we're coming from Rabat, the capital, the journey is very short, just about 15-20 minutes via the coastal road or the A1 highway. From Casablanca, the trip is a bit longer, around an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic, also via the A1 highway towards Rabat. The beach has nearby parking areas, although they can fill up quickly during high season, so we suggest arriving early.
By Public Transport
From Rabat, you can take buses or shared taxis ('grands taxis') that connect Sjirat-Temara with the capital. Once in Temara, local taxis ('petits taxis') are the most comfortable option to get directly to the beach. Although there isn't a train station right in Temara, the Rabat Agdal or Rabat Ville stations are good options if you're coming from farther cities, and from there, continue by taxi or bus.
The Sand and Water
One of the biggest attractions of Playa de Temara is, without a doubt, its sand and water. We were delighted with the quality of both.
The Sand
The sand here is predominantly fine and of a beautiful light golden color. It's incredibly soft underfoot, making it perfect for long barefoot walks or for children to build sandcastles without difficulty. Its expanse allows you to always find a good spot to lay your towel, even on busier days. It's sand that invites relaxation and play, and its cleanliness is notable, especially for being a Blue Flag beach.
The Water
The waters of Playa de Temara are, in general, quite calm, making them very safe for swimming, especially for the little ones. The slope into the sea is gentle, meaning we can walk quite a bit before the water fully covers us. Although we're on the Atlantic, currents are usually moderate in this area. The water quality is good, a crucial point for us, and its temperature is pleasant during the summer months, refreshing but not cold. It's a pleasure to immerse yourself in them and enjoy a relaxing swim or an invigorating dip.
Services and Facilities
Playa de Temara stands out for offering a wide range of services that significantly enhance the visitor experience. We greatly value the comfort this provides.
As a beach with the Blue Flag distinction, we can expect a high standard in terms of services and cleanliness. Among the most important, we find:
- Showers: Essential for washing off sand and salt after a good swim.
- Parking: As mentioned, there are parking areas available, making access easier for those coming by car.
- Chiringuitos and Restaurants: On the beach and in its vicinity, there's a good selection of chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy local cuisine, from fresh fish to delicious tagines and mint tea. They're perfect for a light lunch or a dinner with sea views.
- Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services that watch over the safety of swimmers, giving us additional peace of mind, especially if traveling with children.
- Umbrellas and Sun Loungers: There are spots where we can rent umbrellas and sun loungers to enjoy the sun with greater comfort and protection.
- Restrooms/WC: Restroom facilities are available and are an essential service for any beach aspiring to be family-friendly and comfortable.
- Sports Area: We often find beach volleyball nets or areas where you can play soccer, adding an active component to the beach day.
Best Time to Visit
Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Temara can make a big difference in our experience. We always advise considering the season to enjoy it to the fullest.
Spring (April-May)
For us, spring is one of the best times. The weather is mild and very pleasant, with temperatures around 20-25°C. The crowds are smaller than in summer, allowing us to enjoy the beach with more tranquility and space. It's ideal for long walks, relaxing in the sun, and enjoying the sea breeze if
