From the moment we set foot on Playa de Tazacorte, on the beautiful island of La Palma, we feel a special connection with the nature and tranquility it radiates. This corner of the Atlantic, bathed in sunshine almost all year round, offers us a unique beach experience, very different from what one might expect from other Spanish coasts. Here, the black volcanic sand takes center stage, a silent testament to the island's powerful geology, which contrasts spectacularly with the deep blue of its waters.

How to Get to Playa de Tazacorte

Getting to Playa de Tazacorte is relatively easy, and the route itself already gifts us with spectacular views that prepare us for what's to come. If we're coming from La Palma Airport (SPC), the most comfortable and flexible option is to rent a car. The journey takes approximately 45-50 minutes, passing through volcanic landscapes and lush banana plantations. The road is good and well signposted, taking us directly to the municipality of Tazacorte and, from there, to Puerto de Tazacorte, where the beach is located.

For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines (guaguas) connecting Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane with Puerto de Tazacorte. Although the service is efficient, schedules can be less frequent, especially on weekends. If we are staying in Los Llanos de Aridane, the distance is much shorter, just 10-15 minutes by car or bus. Once at Puerto de Tazacorte, the beach is easily accessible on foot, as it is located right next to the marina and the lively seafront promenade. Parking is usually not a problem, as there are several free parking areas, although in high season it may require a bit more patience to find a spot.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive and fascinating aspects of Playa de Tazacorte is its black volcanic sand. For us, it's an element that gives it a unique personality. This sand, fine-grained and soft to the touch, heats up quickly under the La Palma sun, offering a peculiar and very pleasant sensation. The dark color is not only aesthetically striking but also constantly reminds us that we are on an island of volcanic origin, a living land in constant transformation. It's curious how at first it can be surprising, but we quickly fall in love with its uniqueness.

As for the water, it is simply delightful. The waters of Playa de Tazacorte are known for their incredible calm and clarity. Thanks to the natural protection offered by the surrounding cliffs and the structure of the port, the waves are minimal, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, even for small children or those who are not very comfortable with strong waves. The underwater visibility is fantastic, inviting us to practice snorkeling and discover the marine life that inhabits its seabed. Furthermore, the water temperature is usually pleasant for much of the year, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing dip in any season. It is a true pleasure to immerse yourself in these waters and feel the tranquility that envelops you.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Tazacorte stands out not only for its natural beauty but also for the excellent infrastructure of services it offers, making it one of the most comfortable and complete beaches in La Palma. We greatly appreciate that such a beautiful beach is so well equipped, considering the needs of all its visitors.

Among the most important services, we find lifeguards who watch over our safety during the bathing season, giving us great peace of mind, especially if we go with children. The showers and toilets/WCs are clean and in good condition, something essential after a day at the beach. Also, for those seeking greater comfort, there is a sunbed and umbrella rental service, allowing us to relax without having to carry our own equipment.

Accessibility is another strong point of this beach. We are pleased to say that Playa de Tazacorte has full accessibility, including ramps and walkways that facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, as well as amphibious chairs available in high season. This demonstrates a commitment to inclusion that we applaud. Right behind the beach, along the promenade, we find a vibrant offering of chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy local cuisine, have a drink or an ice cream. The presence of nearby parking, as we already mentioned, is also a big plus. In short, the beach is designed so that our only concern is to enjoy the sun and the sea.

Best Time to Visit

One of the great advantages of La Palma, and therefore of Playa de Tazacorte, is that it enjoys exceptional weather all year round, allowing us to visit it in any season. However, if we are looking for the optimal experience, there are certain times we might consider 'best' depending on our preferences.
