Introduction
As passionate explorers of the world's most beautiful coastlines, we've had the pleasure of discovering Playa de Tale, a true hidden gem in the heart of Albania. Located in the municipality of Lezhë, this beach is a testament to the natural beauty the Albanian Adriatic coast has to offer. Far from the hustle and bustle of more crowded destinations, Playa de Tale welcomes us with an atmosphere of serenity and an authenticity that makes it irresistible.
From the moment we set foot on its sand, we feel a special connection with the surroundings. Its waters, of an inviting turquoise blue, are incredibly clean and calm, making it the perfect place for families with young children and for those simply seeking a refuge of peace. It's one of those Lezhë beaches that, while not as famous as others, holds a particular charm that makes us want to return again and again. Here, time seems to slow down, allowing us to enjoy every moment, from the gentle murmur of the waves to the spectacular sunsets that paint the sky with vibrant colors.
How to Get to Playa de Tale
Getting to Playa de Tale is relatively straightforward, though it requires a bit of planning, especially if we're coming from outside Albania. The beach is located in the Lezhë district, a comfortable distance from the city of the same name. For us, the most common way to access it is through the capital, Tirana, which has the 'Mother Teresa' International Airport (TIA).
From Tirana
- By car: We rent a car in Tirana, which gives us the most flexibility. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. We take the SH1 heading north towards Lezhë. Once in Lezhë, we follow the signs towards the coast and the Tale area. The main roads are in good condition, though the last few kilometers to the beach can be more rural.
- By bus: There are regular buses from Tirana's bus station to Lezhë. Once in Lezhë, we can take a local taxi or a minibus (furgon) that will take us directly to Playa de Tale. It's a more economical option, but less direct.
From Lezhë city
From the city of Lezhë, the trip to the beach is short, about 20-30 minutes by car. There are available taxis that can take us, or if we're staying in the area, many accommodations can arrange transfers. The tranquility of the beach makes up for any small effort in the journey.
The Sand and Water
The experience at Playa de Tale is largely defined by the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. We find a fine sand, of a light golden color, which is extremely pleasant underfoot. It's ideal for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out our towel and relaxing without worrying about rocks or pebbles. The predominant type of ground is, without a doubt, sand, which facilitates access to the sea and makes it safe for everyone.
As for the water, it is simply spectacular. The crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea at Playa de Tale are a constant invitation to dive in. Their transparency allows us to see the seabed clearly, making it an excellent place for snorkeling, even if we just want to observe some small fish near the shore. Furthermore, the water temperature is very pleasant during the summer months, warm and refreshing at the same time, perfect for long swims and water games. The shallow depth near the shore is a plus for children, who can splash around safely, while adults find enough space to swim and enjoy the calm sea.
Services and Facilities
Playa de Tale offers us a balanced combination of natural beauty and essential services that make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Although it's not an excessively urbanized beach, it has everything needed to enjoy a full day under the Albanian sun.
Among the services we found and appreciated, the following stand out:
- Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach, there are several chiringuitos and small restaurants where we can enjoy refreshing drinks, ice cream, and, of course, delicious local food. They are perfect places for a break in the shade and to try Albanian cuisine with sea views.
- Sun Umbrellas and Sunbeds: For our comfort, most sections of the beach offer the possibility to rent sun umbrellas and sunbeds for a reasonable price. This allows us to secure our spot and protect ourselves from the sun during the midday hours.
- Parking: Although it's not always a formal, signposted parking lot, there are designated areas or wide spaces near the beach where we can leave our car without major problems. It's advisable to arrive early in the high season to secure a good spot.
- Showers: After a refreshing swim in the sea, it's always nice to be able to rinse off the salt and sand. We found basic showers available at various points on the beach, which is a great relief before returning to our accommodation.
- Lifeguards: During the peak summer season, safety is a priority. We saw the presence of lifeguards supervising the waters, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially when we're with children. It's an essential service for a beach so popular with families.
