Our experience in Stalis has taught us that it is a versatile beach. It can be the setting for a quiet day of reading under an umbrella or the starting point for exciting water sports. The proximity to other popular resorts like Malia and Hersonissos adds extra appeal, allowing visitors to explore the region's diversity without long journeys. How to Get to Playa de Stalis

Getting to Playa de Stalis is relatively straightforward, given its strategic location on Crete's north coast and its proximity to Heraklion International Airport (HER). We always recommend planning transportation in advance to ensure a hassle-free arrival.

From Heraklion Airport (HER)

Heraklion's 'Nikos Kazantzakis' airport is the main entry point to Crete for most travelers. From there, Stalis is located about 30 kilometers to the east.

• By taxi: This is the most comfortable and fastest option, especially if we are traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group. The journey usually takes between 25 and 35 minutes, depending on traffic, and the cost is around 40-50 euros. Taxis are available right outside the arrivals terminal.
• Car rental: For us, renting a car is the best way to explore Crete at our own pace. There are numerous rental agencies at the airport. The road connecting Heraklion with Stalis is the main coastal highway (E75), well-signposted and in good condition. The journey is direct and scenic.
• Bus: This is the most economical option. From the airport, we must first take a local bus to Heraklion's Central Bus Station A. From there, we will take another KTEL bus heading to Malia or Agios Nikolaos. Stalis is a very frequent intermediate stop. The buses are modern and comfortable, although the trip can be a bit longer due to the stops. It is important to check the schedules, especially outside the high season.

From Other Nearby Locations

If we are already staying in other Cretan towns:

• From Heraklion city: We can take a KTEL bus from Heraklion's Station A directly to Stalis. Buses are very frequent during the day.
• From Malia or Hersonissos: Stalis is located between these two popular resorts. We can easily get there on foot (if the distance is short), by taxi, or on the local buses that constantly run along the coast. The proximity to Malia, just a few kilometers to the east, makes even a bicycle ride a pleasant option.

The Sand and Water

When we think of Playa de Stalis, the first thing that comes to mind is its exquisite combination of sand and water, two elements that define it as a top-tier beach destination. We always value the quality of these aspects, as they are fundamental for a pleasant beach experience.

The Sand

The sand at Stalis is predominantly fine and golden, almost caressing underfoot. It stretches throughout the bay, forming a wide strip that invites walking, sunbathing, or building sandcastles. Its soft texture makes it ideal for young children, who can play in total comfort. We do not find rocks at the water's edge in most sections, which makes entering the sea worry-free. The cleanliness of the sand is notable, a factor that contributes to it often being awarded the Blue Flag, reflecting the care and maintenance this Heraklion (Crete) beach receives.

The Water

The waters of Playa de Stalis are one of its greatest attractions. They are famous for their clarity and turquoise color, which invites immediate immersion. Underwater visibility is excellent, allowing us to observe small fish and marine life in the calmer areas. But what we like most about these waters is their calmness. Stalis Bay is relatively sheltered from the prevailing winds, which means the waves are usually gentle, especially in the morning. This makes it a plac
