How to Get to St. Thomas Bay Beach

For many, the first point of contact with Malta will be Malta International Airport. From there, we have several alternatives to get to St. Thomas Bay. The fastest and most direct option is to take a taxi or a private transfer service, which will take us directly to Marsaskala in approximately 20 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic. This is an excellent option if we are traveling with a lot of luggage or with small children, as it ensures a hassle-free journey. For those who prefer public transport, we can take the X4 bus from the airport to the Valletta bus station. Once there, we will transfer to one of the lines that connect directly with Marsaskala, such as the 91, 92, or 93. Although the total bus journey can take between 60 and 90 minutes, it is an economical and picturesque way to start familiarizing ourselves with the Maltese landscape and observe local life. Buses in Malta are reliable and offer good coverage of the island.

From Valletta

If our base of operations is the historic capital, Valletta, access to Marsaskala and, therefore, to the Marsaskala beach of St. Thomas Bay, is quite straightforward. Bus lines 91, 92, and 93 depart regularly from the Valletta bus terminal and will drop us off in the heart of Marsaskala. The journey usually takes between 30 and 40 minutes, offering us changing views of the Maltese countryside and the charming villages we pass through. Once in Marsaskala, St. Thomas Bay is a short walk from the town center or a brief trip on another local bus or taxi. It is a pleasant journey that allows us to immerse ourselves in the local atmosphere before reaching our final relaxation destination.

Renting a car in Malta is an option we highly recommend, as it gives us incomparable freedom to explore the island at our own pace, discovering hidden corners and adjusting our plans on the go. From any point on the island, following the signs to Marsaskala is quite simple, and the roads are well signposted. Once in the vicinity of the bay, we will find several free parking areas. However, it is important to consider that during the peak season months (July and August), these parking lots can fill up quickly, so we suggest arriving early in the morning to secure a good spot. The possibility of having our own vehicle allows us to combine the visit to St. Thomas Bay with excursions to other nearby points of interest without depending on transport schedules.
