When we think of a coastal getaway, Playa de Skhirat comes to mind for its unique combination of tranquility and services. It is not just a place to sunbathe; it is a space where families find safety for their little ones, where nature lovers can enjoy long walks along the shore, and where one can simply disconnect. The sea breeze, the gentle sound of the waves, and the warmth of the sun envelop us, creating an atmosphere of pure relaxation. How to Get to Playa de Skhirat
Getting to Playa de Skhirat is surprisingly easy, given its excellent location and Morocco's good infrastructure connections. We find ourselves in a privileged position, about 30 kilometers south of Rabat and approximately 60 kilometers north of Casablanca, making it accessible from the country's two main metropolises.
By Car
For us, the most comfortable and flexible way to get there is by car. If you are coming from Rabat, you can take the A3 highway towards Casablanca and exit at the Skhirat sign. The journey is quick, just 20-30 minutes, and the road is in excellent condition. From Casablanca, the trip is a bit longer, around 45 minutes to an hour, following the same A3 highway towards Rabat. The beach is well signposted once you turn off the highway, leading you directly to the coastal area. We have several parking options near the beach, some free and others paid, especially during the high season, but we always find a suitable place to park our vehicle.
By Train
Morocco has a modern railway network, and Skhirat has its own train station. It is a very convenient option if you prefer not to drive. We can take a train from Rabat-Ville or Casa Voyageurs directly to Skhirat station. From there, a short taxi ride (which is usually easy to find outside the station) will take us directly to Playa de Skhirat. This method is ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy the scenery without worrying about driving or parking.
By Taxi or Bus
We can also opt for a 'grand taxi' from Rabat or Casablanca, which are shared taxis and an economical way to travel between cities. Although they may take a little longer while waiting to fill up, they offer a more local experience. Intercity bus lines also connect the main cities with Sjirat-Temara, and once in the city, a local taxi will take us to the beach. For us, the choice will depend on our budget and how much of a hurry we are in, but in any case, access to Playa de Skhirat is guaranteed.
The Sand and Water
When talking about Playa de Skhirat, we cannot fail to highlight the exceptional quality of its sand and the serenity of its waters, two of the attributes that make it such a coveted destination for us and for all visitors.
The Sand: A Golden Carpet Under Our Feet
The sand of Playa de Skhirat is, without a doubt, one of its greatest attractions. It is fine sand, of a pale golden hue that shines under the Moroccan sun. Its texture is soft and pleasant to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the children, or simply spreading out our towel and relaxing. Along its approximately 1800 meters of extension, the sand remains clean and well-maintained, contributing to the feeling of well-being and neatness that we so appreciate. It is the kind of sand that invites you to stay, to feel it between your fingers, and to enjoy every moment on it.
The Water: Calm and Clarity of the Atlantic
The waters that bathe Playa de Skhirat are another of its great treasures. Belonging to the Atlantic Ocean, here they present themselves with a calmness and clarity that we do not always find on other beaches in Morocco. They are generally shallow waters near the shore, making them ideal for the safe bathing of the little ones and for those who enjoy a relaxing dip. The water temperature is pleasant for much of the year, especially from spring until well into autumn, allowing us to enjoy refreshing swims.
The transparency of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom, which adds an extra layer of confidence and security. The currents are usually gentle and the waves, for the most part, small and manageable, reinforcing the suitability of Playa de Skhirat for family activities and for those seeking a calm swim. There are no large rock formations or pebbles in the main bathing area; the type of soil
