How to Get to Shkorpilovtsi Beach

Getting to Shkorpilovtsi Beach is part of the adventure, and its relative accessibility helps maintain its semi-virgin and tranquil character. Located approximately 40-50 kilometers south of the vibrant city of Varna, on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, the beach is in a location that, while not remote, does require some effort to reach, which is precisely what protects it from the crowds. For us, the best and most comfortable option to get there is clearly by car. Driving from Varna allows us to enjoy the coastal and inland landscapes of the province and gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. The journey usually takes between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on traffic and speed.

By Car

If you choose to go by car, which is what we highly recommend, the route is quite straightforward. From Varna, you should take the E87 highway heading south, towards Burgas. After passing towns like Byala, you will find signs to turn off towards the village of Shkorpilovtsi. Once you reach the village, the beach is a short distance away, and there are several entrances and paths leading to different sections of this extensive shoreline. Along the beach, you will find various parking areas, some more organized and paid in areas with 'chiringuitos' (beach bars), and others more informal and free, where you can simply park your car near the sand. It is important to consider that, being such a long and underdeveloped beach, not all sections have direct and well-signposted road access, which adds a touch of exploration to the experience.

Public Transport

Although the car is the preferred option, public transport is an alternative, albeit less practical and more limited. From the Varna bus station, there are bus services connecting to the village of Shkorpilovtsi. However, the frequency is not very high, and once in the village, you will still have to walk a good distance or consider a local taxi to reach the sand, especially if you are loaded with umbrellas, coolers, or beach equipment. From our experience, we have found that this option can be somewhat tedious, especially if the goal is to spend the whole day on the beach and explore its different corners. Therefore, if your budget allows or if you are traveling in a group, renting a car is undoubtedly the best investment to fully enjoy everything that Shkorpilovtsi Beach and its surroundings have to offer. The flexibility of having your own vehicle will allow you to discover more secluded coves and explore the adjacent forests, thus enriching your visit to this magnificent destination.
