It is, without a doubt, one of those Greece beaches that stays etched in memory, not only for its aesthetics but for the sense of discovery it evokes.

How to Get to Playa de Seychelles

Getting to Playa de Seychelles is part of the adventure and charm that makes it so special. It is not one of those beaches you can drive directly to, and that is precisely what contributes to its aura of a hidden treasure. The beach is located on the southwest coast of the island of Ikaria, near the picturesque village of Magganitis, famous for its tunnel carved into the rock.

If we come by car, the most common route is to drive to a specific point on the road connecting Magganitis with Karkinagri. From there, a hike of about ten to fifteen minutes awaits us. The trail, although not excessively long, is steep and rocky, so we highly recommend wearing suitable footwear, such as sneakers or sturdy sandals, and not typical beach flip-flops. The descent can be a bit slippery in some sections, but each step brings us closer to the visual reward waiting below.

For those who prefer a more relaxed approach or simply wish to enjoy the views from the sea, there is the option of arriving by boat. During the summer months, small boats or water taxis usually offer trips to Playa de Seychelles from nearby ports like Magganitis or even Agios Kirykos. This option allows us to admire the stunning rock formations of the coast from a different perspective and is especially recommended if traveling with young children or people with reduced mobility, as it avoids the downhill hike.

Whichever way we decide to arrive, the approach experience is intrinsic to the visit. The expectation grows with every curve of the road or every wave of the sea, and the first view of the cove from above or from the bow of a boat is always a moment of awe. Upon stepping onto Playa de Seychelles, the first thing that catches our attention is the ground. Here we will not find the fine, golden sand typical of many Greece beaches. Instead, we are greeted by a carpet of white pebbles, polished and smooth, varying in size from small stones to larger cobbles. This characteristic is what gives the beach its name and uniqueness, as these pebbles reflect the sunlight in a spectacular way, intensifying the blue and green tones of the sea. Walking on them is a unique sensory experience, although for some it can be a bit challenging, so water shoes can be a good idea.

But if the pebbles are impressive, the water is simply sublime. The clarity is exceptional, allowing us to see the seabed with astonishing sharpness, even at several meters depth. It is a spectacle of colors: from the palest crystal blue at the shore, through a vibrant turquoise, to the deep blue in the more distant areas. This transparency is the result of the absence of fine sand that could cloud the water and the sea currents that keep the cove pristine.

The waters of Playa de Seychelles are generally calm and warm during the summer months, making them perfect for swimming and relaxing. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, although the pebbles continue underwater. The visibility is so good that it is a paradise for snorkeling lovers. We dive into a fascinating underwater world, where we can observe small colorful fish, anemones, and the intricate submerged rock formations that continue the landscape from the surface. It is a true natural pool, inviting us to spend hours exploring or simply floating and enjoying the serenity. The combination of the white pebbles and the dreamy water makes this Ikaria beach an essential destination for any visitor to the island.

Services and Facilities

It is essential to understand that Playa de Seychelles is, by nature, a wild and largely virgin beach. This means we should not expect to find the usual tourist infrastructure of more organized beaches. And, honestly, that is part of its charm. The absence of large complexes, rows of umbrellas and sunbeds, or noisy restaurants is what preserves its pristine atmosphere and natural beauty.

During the high season months, especially in July and August, we might find a small 'chiringuito' or mobile canteen operating on the beach. This is usually an improvised stall offering cold drinks, some basic snacks, and perhaps ice cream. However, its presence is not guaranteed and, if there is one, the offering is limited. Let's not expect a full menu or restaurant services. Therefore, our recommendation is to go well prepared.

When we plan
