How to Get to Playa de Saturraran

Getting to Playa de Saturraran is relatively straightforward, although its more remote location contributes to its aura of tranquility. We always recommend planning the route in advance, especially if visiting during peak season, as the parking lot can fill up quickly.

By Car

For most visitors, the car is the most comfortable option to get to Saturraran. From Mutriku, the journey is short and well signposted. Just follow the GI-638 road towards Ondarroa and, just before crossing the provincial border with Bizkaia, we'll see the signs for the beach. If coming from Ondarroa, access is equally direct by following the same road towards Mutriku.

Upon arrival, you'll find a free Parking lot, although limited in size, located next to the beach. In the summer months, it's advisable to arrive early in the morning to secure a spot. If the main parking lot is full, there are sometimes parking options on the roadside shoulders or in designated areas a bit further away, which involves a short walk. The good news is that the walk is usually pleasant, with views of the sea and cliffs.

By Public Transport

Public transport options are more limited for getting directly to Playa de Saturraran. There is no bus line that goes to the beach itself. The most practical option would be to take a bus to Mutriku and, from there, consider a taxi or even a 20-30 minute walk if you feel like strolling and enjoying the scenery. Buses from the Lurraldebus company connect Mutriku with other important towns in Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, such as Deba, Eibar, or San Sebastián. It's always a good idea to check the updated schedules, as they can vary depending on the season.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive aspects of Playa de Saturraran is its type of ground and sand. It's not a beach with homogeneous sand; rather, it's characterized by mixed sand, with areas of golden sand interwoven with rock formations and pebbles. As for the water, the waters of Saturraran are generally clean and clear, typical of the Cantabrian Sea. The water quality is usually excellent, inviting you to dive in and enjoy a refreshing swim. The waves are usually moderate, making it suitable for calm bathing, although as on any Cantabrian beach, days with stronger waves can occur, especially during spring tides. The water temperature is characteristic of northern Spain: cool, but incredibly revitalizing in the summer months. A dip here is an experience you won't forget!
