How to Get to Playa de Santo Tomàs

Getting to Playa de Santo Tomàs is surprisingly simple, an advantage we greatly appreciate when seeking comfort on our getaways. This beach, located on the south coast of Menorca, is in the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran, a charming inland town. From Mahón Airport (MAH), the journey by car is approximately 25-30 minutes, covering a distance of about 25 kilometers. We usually rent a car upon arrival on the island, which gives us total freedom to explore, and for Santo Tomàs it is the most practical option.

To get there, we take the main road ME-1 towards Ciutadella and, near Es Mercadal, we turn off towards Es Migjorn Gran via the ME-18. Once in the town, we will find clear signs that will guide us directly to the Santo Tomàs area. The beach has a large public and free parking lot, which is a big plus, especially during the high season months. Although it can fill up, we have always found a spot, perhaps having to walk a few extra meters. There is also the option of arriving by public transport from Mahón or Ciutadella, with bus lines operating more frequently during the summer. However, for us, the flexibility of a car is unbeatable for making the most of every corner of the island.

The Sand and the Water

When talking about Playa de Santo Tomàs, we cannot help but emphasize the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters, which are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions. The sand is a pale golden color and very fine, so soft that it invites you to walk barefoot for hours. It is ideal for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for lying down and feeling its warmth under the Menorcan sun. Along its approximately 650 meters in length, the sand remains clean and well-maintained, a reflection of the area's commitment to quality tourism.

As for the water, it is simply spectacular. We are met with a sea of crystal-clear waters and an intense turquoise color that invites you to dive in instantly. What we like most, and what makes it so attractive for families, is its shallowness at the shoreline. You can walk quite a few meters out to sea and the water barely covers you, making it an extremely safe place for children and for those who do not feel very comfortable swimming in deep water. The absence of strong currents and the natural protection of the bay contribute to the sea generally being calm, offering a relaxing and refreshing swim. Furthermore, the clarity of the water allows you to easily see the sandy bottom, which in itself is a spectacle.

Here we will not miss anything, which allows us to focus solely on enjoying the sun and the sea. To begin with, the beach has lifeguards during the high season, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we are traveling with children. Safety is always a priority, and in Santo Tomàs it is guaranteed.

Regarding hygiene and comfort, we have showers to wash off the sand and salt after swimming, as well as clean and accessible bathrooms/WCs. For those seeking maximum relaxation, there is a sunbed and umbrella rental service, which saves us from having to carry our own equipment. Along the promenade that borders the beach, we will find several chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or a complete meal with sea views. The gastronomic offer is varied, from more informal options to restaurants with more elaborate dishes. Furthermore, the beach is accessible for people with reduced mobility, with wooden walkways that facilitate access to the sand and, on occasion, amphibious chairs available. For the little ones, there is a nearby children's play area and the possibility of renting equipment for gentle water sports, such as paddleboards or kayaks. And, of course, as already mentioned, a large parking lot for our vehicles.
