How to Get to Playa de Santiago

Getting to Playa de Santiago is relatively easy, especially if we're already on La Gomera. The island, though small, has an excellent road network connecting its main points of interest. From San Sebastián de La Gomera, the capital, the drive takes about 30-40 minutes, following the GM-2 road south. The views along the way are spectacular, winding through ravines and cliffs, offering impressive panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean and the island's lush vegetation.

For those who prefer public transport, there's a bus line (line 3) connecting San Sebastián with Playa de Santiago, passing by La Gomera Airport. It's a comfortable and economical option to enjoy the scenery without worrying about parking. If we arrive in La Gomera by plane, the airport (GMZ) is just a few kilometers from the beach, making the transfer a matter of minutes. Once at Playa de Santiago, access to the beach is very easy, with nearby, well-signposted parking areas that make arrival convenient for all visitors.

The Sand and Water

Its sand isn't the typical golden sand we might expect from other coasts, but a fascinating mix of dark-toned volcanic sand and small pebbles polished by the sea. Though at first glance it may seem less 'soft' than fine-sand beaches, its texture is pleasant underfoot and gives it a rustic charm that we love.

The Atlantic temperature in this area is generally mild, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing dip for most of the year. It's a pleasure to immerse ourselves in these waters and feel the energy of the Gomera ocean.

Furthermore, we can find umbrellas and sun loungers for rent, allowing us to relax comfortably under the sun without needing to bring our own equipment. Along the promenade bordering the beach, we discover a good selection of chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or savor local cuisine with sea views. Parking is another important service, with designated areas nearby that facilitate car access. Full accessibility is also a strong point, with ramps and walkways that make access easier for people with reduced mobility, even with the occasional availability of amphibious chairs, demonstrating a commitment to inclusion.
