If there is a corner of the Costa Brava that has stolen our hearts with its elegance, serenity, and incomparable beauty, that is, without a doubt, Playa de Sant Pol. Strategically located between the charming fishing village of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and the sophistication of S'Agaró, this bay is a true gift for the senses. From the first moment one glimpses its wide expanse of golden sand and its turquoise waters, it becomes clear that you have arrived at a special place, an enclave where nature and architecture blend in perfect harmony.
Playa de Sant Pol is not just another beach; it is a destination in itself. Its crescent shape, sheltered from the winds, makes it a sanctuary of tranquility, ideal for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle without giving up all the comforts. It is a natural canvas where the elegant modernist and noucentista villas of S'Agaró, with their lush gardens, overlook the sea, creating a backdrop of singular beauty. We are faced with a jewel of the Costa Brava, a place that invites disconnection, family enjoyment, and contemplation.
How to Get to Playa de Sant Pol
Getting to Playa de Sant Pol is relatively easy, whether you come by private car or opt for public transport. Its privileged location between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and S'Agaró makes it very accessible from different points in the province of Girona and beyond.
By Car
For many of us, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option. From the city of Girona, we will take the C-65 towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Once there, we will follow the signs to S'Agaró or directly to Playa de Sant Pol. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. If we are coming from Barcelona, the most common route is the AP-7 to the Llagostera exit and then the C-65. The trip can take around 1 hour and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Once in the area, we will find several parking options. During the high season, demand is high, so we recommend arriving early. There are regulated (paid) parking areas right next to the beach and on adjacent streets. There are also private paid parking lots that offer more security and availability. It is important to pay attention to the signage to avoid fines.
By Public Transport
Although the car offers more freedom, it is also possible to arrive by public transport. From the Girona bus station, there are regular bus lines connecting to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Once in Sant Feliu, we can take a local bus that will take us close to Playa de Sant Pol, or enjoy a pleasant 20-30 minute walk along the promenade, which will allow us to discover the surroundings and its views.
The Sand and the Water
When we talk about Playa de Sant Pol, two of its most outstanding features are, without a doubt, its sand and the quality of its waters. It is these elements that, to a large extent, contribute to its reputation as one of the most appreciated beaches on the Costa Brava.
The Sand: A Golden and Soft Carpet
The sand of Sant Pol has a fine, golden texture, a true pleasure for the feet. It is the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply lie down and feel its warmth under the sun. Being a well-protected bay, the sand remains clean and loose, without large accumulations of shells or pebbles that could be uncomfortable. This quality is especially valued by families, as it allows children to play with complete freedom and safety.
The Water: Crystal Clear and Calm
The waters of Playa de Sant Pol are, in a word, spectacular. They are usually crystal clear and a turquoise blue that invites you to take a dip from the first moment. Being in a sheltered bay, the waves are generally very gentle, making it an ideal beach for young children and for those who prefer to swim or relax in the water without worries. The entry into the sea is gradual, without sudden drops, which further increases safety for swimmers of all ages.
The water quality is consistently high, a fact reinforced by the regular presence of the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies environmental excellence and service quality. This transparency allows you to appreciate the seabed, which, although not especially rocky, does have small areas where you can practice a bit of snorkeling and observe some minor marine species. The combination of fine sand and calm, clean waters makes Playa de Sant Pol an idyllic place to enjoy a perfect beach day.
