How to get to Playa de San José

Getting to Playa de San José is relatively straightforward, although we must consider that we are entering a Natural Park with its own regulations, especially during high season. The main access route is via the AL-3101 road, which connects Níjar with San José. If we are coming from the city of Almería, the drive usually takes about 45-60 minutes, offering us spectacular views of the semi-desert and volcanic landscape of the park.

Once we approach the village of San José, the beach is easy to locate, as it is right next to the urban center. For those who choose to drive, there are several parking options. The village has paid parking areas, especially in the summer months (July and August), where it is almost essential to arrive early to secure a spot. Outside of high season, it is easier to find free parking nearby or in the village itself. We always advise getting up a bit early to avoid crowds and enjoy the beach at its calmest moments.

Although the car is the most comfortable option for exploring the Natural Park, there are also some public transport alternatives. There are bus lines connecting the city of Almería with San José, although frequencies are usually limited, especially outside the summer months. Once in the village, the beach is accessible on foot from any point, allowing us to leave the car and move around with complete freedom.
