How to Get to Playa de San Antolín

Getting to Playa de San Antolín is relatively easy, although it requires us to take a small detour from the main routes. For us, this is part of its charm, as it takes us away from traffic and gradually immerses us in a more natural environment. If you come via the Cantabrian Motorway (A-8), you should take exit 309 towards Posada de Llanes/Naves. Once on the N-634, which connects the main towns along the coast, you will find signs for the beach in the village of Naves. It is a small, well-signposted detour that will take you directly to the designated parking area next to the beach.

Access and Parking

Access to the beach from the parking lot is comfortable, via a wooden walkway that makes our way to the sand easier. We think it's important to note that, although the walkway helps, the beach does not have full accessibility for people with reduced mobility right to the shoreline, due to the very nature of the terrain. The parking lot is usually spacious, but in the summer months, especially on weekends, it can fill up quickly, so we always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. The feeling of approaching the beach and starting to hear the roar of the sea is one of those small rewards the trip gives us.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa de San Antolín, we also highlight the characteristics of its sand and waters, which are a fundamental part of its identity. We find a mixed-type sand, of a very characteristic toasted color, mixed with small pebbles, especially in the area closest to the river and the upper part of the beach. The beach floor is predominantly sand and rock, with rocky outcrops emerging at various points, especially at the ends and during low tide.
