And Playa de Sacido in Viveiro, in the beautiful province of Lugo, is undoubtedly one of those hidden treasures that has captivated us. Located in the Mariña Lucense, this beach presents itself as a serene and picturesque alternative to the busier ones, like the nearby Covas beach. Its charm lies in its manageable size, its fine golden sand, and waters that invite you for a swim and relaxation.

Sacido is a semi-urban cove, which means that, while it has some basic amenities, it maintains a natural and tranquil atmosphere. It is the perfect place for those looking to disconnect from the daily hustle, enjoy the sound of the waves, and contemplate a typically Galician coastal landscape, marked by lush vegetation and the rock formations that protect it. From the moment we set foot on its sand, we feel a special connection with the environment, an invitation to slow down and simply enjoy the present.

How to Get to Playa de Sacido

Getting to Playa de Sacido is relatively straightforward, although it requires paying attention to the signs, as it is not as visible as other main beaches. If we are coming from Viveiro, we must head towards the Covas area. Once in Covas, we need to take a turnoff that leads towards the lighthouse or Punta de Sacido. The road is paved and passable, but it can become a bit narrow in some sections. We always recommend driving with caution, especially during the high season when there may be more vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Transportation Options

• By car: This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable and flexible option. From the center of Viveiro, the journey takes no more than 5-10 minutes. There are parking areas nearby, although their capacity can be limited on the busiest days, especially during the summer months. We advise arriving early to secure a good spot.
• On foot or by bicycle: For the more adventurous or those staying near Covas or Viveiro itself, it is possible to reach the beach on foot or by bicycle. The walk is very pleasant, offering spectacular views of the coast. However, it's important to consider that the path has some slopes, so it is not suitable for all fitness levels.
• Public transport: Although Viveiro has urban bus lines, Playa de Sacido does not have a direct stop. The closest stop would be in Covas, from where you would have to walk a good distance. Therefore, the car remains the most practical option for most visitors.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Sacido welcomes us with fine, golden sand, very pleasant to the touch, inviting us to walk barefoot and lie in the sun. It is clean, well-maintained sand, characteristic of the beaches of Lugo. The quality of the sand, together with the purity of its waters, creates a truly beautiful visual contrast that we love to photograph. Children, in particular, really enjoy building sandcastles and playing on its shores, making it an excellent family choice.

Water Characteristics

The waters of Sacido are generally calm and crystal-clear, with a gentle swell that rarely presents dangers. This is partly due to the natural protection offered by the surrounding rock formations. The color of the water varies between blue and emerald green tones, depending on the daylight and sea conditions. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is refreshing, ideal for combating the summer heat, but perhaps a bit cold for those who feel the cold outside of July and August.

The Seabed

The seabed of Playa de Sacido is predominantly sandy, but towards the ends of the cove, where the rocks are, we can find small areas of rock and seaweed. These areas are perfect for those who enjoy snorkeling, as visibility is usually good and allows for observing local marine life. We recommend bringing goggles and a snorkel to explore these small ecosystems and marvel at the diversity hidden in Galician waters.

Services and Facilities

Despite its more intimate size, Playa de Sacido offers some essential services that contribute to a comfortable and pleasant experience. Don't expect the infrastructure of a large urban beach, but you will find what's necessary to enjoy a worry-free day. We greatly appreciate that, even being a more secluded beach, minimum standards of quality and visitor attention are maintained.

Available Services

• Showers: We find outdoor showers, which is very practical for washing off sand and salt before heading home. It's a detail we always appreciate, especially after a good swim. Although they are usually cold showers, they serve their purpose perfectly.
• Parking: As mentioned earlier, there are parking areas near the beach. Although their capacity is not unlimited, it is usually sufficient outside of the summer peak hours. It is important to respect the signs and not park in prohibited areas to avoid obstructing the way.
• Lifeguard service: During the summer high season (usually from July to August), the beach has a lifeguard service, which provides an extra layer of safety, especially for families with children. We always recommend following the lifeguards' instructions and respecting the flags indicating sea conditions.
• Trash bins: There are trash bins distributed along the beach and its access points, encouraging everyone to keep the environment clean. It is essential that all visitors collaborate in preserving the natural beauty of Sacido.
